When they try to turn the tables :bloblaugh:

"AVG: Thank you for selecting AVG Free"

(Yes, I don't trust Windows without some anti-virus.. it's still Windows :windows: )

Edit: Completely removed AVG now since many people say Windows Defender is good enough ✅ The less running in the background the better

@stux Speaking as a sysadmin, Defender is fine. Antivirus alone isn't enough to prevent you from getting pwned, though.

@stux

Also recommending Defender. If it's good enough for us corporately then you know it's good enough.

We've used Kaspersky, AVG etc in the past, but Defender is better than them all.

Which feels weird and unintuitive, given it's MS, but it's true.

@stux installing privacy violating malware as protection is not a good idea. Avast / AVG should be avoided; you are better off just using the built-in Windows defender and some common sense.

@stux Haven't installed any free AV since Defender got introduced in Win 10. It's as good as any of the free ones, and it stays out of the way, which can't be said for some free ones.
I'm looking at you Avast.

hcs,

@stux Windows Defender is on the top (usually as #1) of most benchmarks and I've been using only it as my protection for years:

@hcs always have that one on by default indeed 👌🏻

yvz,

@stux Microsoft Defender is built-in. :P.

That combined with common sense should do. (Common sense is doing the heavy lifting.)

@yvz @stux I second this. In fact, Windows Defender (it is his little name 😁) is far better than most of these "free" adware’s with AV functions…

@beanface42 i have defender also indeed but I wasn’t sure it was ‘good enough’ since uh.. yeah Windows
