bibianaprinoth,

Off we go!

bibianaprinoth,

In this very first session, we‘ll be welcomed by the organisers. Then we‘ve got three talks:

#ExSSV

bibianaprinoth,

Let‘s get this party started. After a wonderful welcome by @astrokiwi , we continue with Debra Fischer.

This is maybe a bit of a reminder that our field is very young and has come a far way in a short period of time!

A shout-out to the #HAPRS #spectrograph setting a new standard back in the days 🥹

And well, then #Kepler happened, so the Doppler community had to give the stage to #transits! 🤩

bibianaprinoth,

But #RV searches continued, aiming to reach the next level: going to lower masses + higher precision. And our advances are still ongoing, with plenty of new #spectrographs to play with.

Look at the development in the precision. From 50 m/s down to 0.4 m/s 🙌🏻

So what‘s next? We need a couple of years more to reach our goal precision, but the community is working on it!

bibianaprinoth,

The future (next decade) of #RVs looks bright!

Exoplanets is front and centre, so if we act smart together and raise our voices, we‘ll reach our goals ❤️

#ExSSV

bibianaprinoth,

@nbatalha takes us on a journey, still chasing shadows ✨

We’re having a quick look at the landscape back in 2019 (when ExSSIV happened in Iceland).

Let’s start with :

Sub-Neptunes are the most common planet type around FGK stars within 100-day periods (down to 1 Rearth).

bibianaprinoth,

We are now at the point in the field, where we can compare with #atmospheric #escape #models and there is plenty left to learn and understand.

On to #composition: TESS has achieved (and exceeded) the goal of the measurement of 50 sub-Neptune masses.

Theory predicts water planets, but where are they? Evidence? Luque+ Palle showed observational evidence for #Mdwarf systems.

But: #theory needs to catch up with what we observe. #ExSSV

bibianaprinoth,

Sub-Neptunes are #diverse!

Let’s move on to #JWST. Stay tuned for some cool results (not allowed to share 🤫).

Welbanks+ touches upon an important issue: the intercomparison of #retrieval codes. There is lots of work to do.

@nbatalha shows a few transmission spectra of sub-Neptunes. But some of which I’ll not share atm, stay tuned for later in the week. ✨

118 planets have been observed with #JWST for C1 and 2, but this is just scratching the surface #ExSSV

bibianaprinoth,

@nbatalha shares what’s on her mind - and it’s a lot!

Take a look & keep on digging #ExSSV

bibianaprinoth,

All good things come in threes: Anne-Marie Lagrange talks about #direct #imaging.

Few #exoplanets have been directly imaged due to contrast limitations — wanna know a secret about me? I am secretly in love with direct imaging 🤫

Uuuh a #family #portrait of directly imaged planets 🤩

Though directly imaged, these systems need a lot of follow-up with other techniques to characterise the systems eg for discs. #ExSSV

image/png

bibianaprinoth,

The system is a key player in the study of directly imaged systems. Especially wrt dynamic studies of the near-resonant chain.

The system also hosts a disc, seen with , also observed with .

Hosting 4 planets, this system invites atmospheric studies of the planets and comparison.

@AstroEvert - I spotted your name there ;)

bibianaprinoth,

Another emblematic system is beta Pic! - it will be covered in some talks later this week.

A sub-solar C/O ratio should give us a hint of the formation scenario but the stellar C/O ratio is a tricky one. Tbh, this showcases again that there is lots to do in the quest to understand formation pathways and locations of giant planets.

Beta Pic was observed by GRAVITY, giving us constraints on mass and orbit. #ExSSV

image/png

bibianaprinoth,

The two previous systems are around A stars, but since recently we also have extreme solar systems around other stellar types. Exciting!

An example are young systems or FGK stars.

I love that I spot so many familiar names, Bohn et al. Alex studied at ETH in his master’s when I did my bachelor’s, and we’ve been friends ever since. Insane!

bibianaprinoth,

Instead of the mass vs. semi major axis plot, we’d like to look at the angular separation. There is a pretty gap to fill.

The next step: imaging young Jupiter analogs.

The next next step: the #ELT will revolutionise the direct imaging field my friends ✨ #ExSSV
