At I was checking continuity while soldering, but couldn't hear the beeps well. @maketvee found it quite amusing that I held the multimeter to my ear with my shoulder. His image and captions are pretty funny, but he may also have inadvertently launched my new career as an LED hotline operator!

@geekmomprojects Epic 😆

@geekmomprojects @maketvee You should be able to change the tone frequency of the beeps as high frequency deafness is the most common type.

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@NatalyaD @maketvee or have an LED indicator light up, or some other method of signaling continuity.

@geekmomprojects @maketvee @schiermi I think I saw a prototype of a device splicing the Multimeter Beep into a headphone cable so you can listen to music on your ANC Headphones while beeping out your board.

@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@MaZderMind @maketvee @schiermi I understand the need for such a device!

f4guk,

@geekmomprojects 😆 😆 😆

hatbang,

@maketvee @geekmomprojects Wau Holland famously carried around a multimeter at all times.. asked why he allegedly replied “in case I need to place a phone call”

Ever since joining Mastodon I've never been around so many geeks. Its like the Usenet days.

@geekmomprojects I could use
a hotline like that sometimes... @maketvee

@geekmomprojects @maketvee I always felt sorry for anyone who needed one of these, but it could be 3d printed :/

@rrmutt @geekmomprojects My first thought on seeing the photo was "Wow, I bet a lot of people younger than me have no idea how she came up with that meter holding technique."

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@xek @rrmutt LOL, so true! I wanted to make a Time-Life operator joke, but figured most people wouldn't get it.

geekmomprojects,
@geekmomprojects@mastodon.social avatar

@rrmutt @maketvee OMG, hysterical! Feel like I should now 3D print an attachment for my multimeter.

alpenglow,

@geekmomprojects @rrmutt @maketvee my mom totally had one of those extra plush foam attachments for her office phone in the 80s, so she wouldn’t have to crick her neck so much.

@geekmomprojects @rrmutt @maketvee

While you're at it 3D print the dialer half of the phone so you can "hang-up" your multimeter.

@geekmomprojects @maketvee need multimeters with headphone jacks, TBH. Or at least those silicone tube "headphones" if we would rather stay non-conductive. (Was going to suggest Bluetooth but I'm not sure if the latency would be annoying.)

@geekmomprojects @maketvee Here at the 555-2812 emergency LED hotline, we will NEVER say you should have used a 555 timer!

@jasoncoon @geekmomprojects @maketvee

I called 555-4017 and was chased off the line

Called 555-2811 by mistake and got redirected to an external circuit

Called 555-7493 but it just kept counting the queued callers
