A question for other #ActuallyAutistic people: do you feel the term "developmentally delayed" applies to you? It definitely applies to my daughter and looking back on my own life, I see it applied to me too, though I don't know if anyone realized it.

If you're an older adult, do you feel like you've "caught up?"

@willaful Emotionally and socially, I was delayed enough to be problematic, but not enough that anyone took it seriously. But I was also well ahead of the curve in terms of reading, writing, and logic, which is all the US education system cared about at that age at the time.

As for “caught up” … emotionally, yes. (But not until my late-20s.) Socially, no, I still feel well behind in that area.

@rick That sounds a lot like me. I was smart and good at school; also, no one was diagnosing girls back then.

This tracks with my experience as well. I had a bunch of tests done in my very early years around 2nd-3rd grade or so and my reading and logic skills were HS level at that point. Everything else beyond that (and of course stuff they don't really bother to test for) falls behind. It's almost like extreme min-maxing of your character sheet. Max out the intelligence, drop a few points off of Wiz and Charisma.
