Kid and I took the dog for a walk on an old class IV back road. The ferns are fantastic, some of them over 5 foot tall. The problem is that they and the grasses are harboring so many ticks right now. Pulled off a half dozen dog ticks partway through the walk and another pile of them when we finished.

over four foot tall fern reaching higher and higher
we should have realized when the road grass got taller that it was full of ticks, dog walking next to pond in foot high grasses

analogfusion,

@jerzone When I was hiking up there a few years ago, I think ferns were where I picked up the majority of ticks I encountered.

Beautiful to look at, but woe to those passing through!

"Just stand next to the ferns so I can get a photo of how big they are to scale.”
Not my best dad moment. Then again we both had about the same number of ticks and I didn't go through/near any ferns.

I suspecting ticks have developed tick trebuchets.
