I was born in Houston and lived in it, or just outside of it, for most of my life. 35 years. I’m HORRIFIED— but people need to know:
Houston is NOT doing this. The state of Texas took over the Houston Independent School District some months ago, appointed its own superintendent, and he is the monster doing this shit. The city is against this bullshit.
The state of TEXAS is going after MY CITY. They’ve been winning too many damn elections for the “wrong” candidates and they don’t like it. They’re scared. The bulk of Dem votes come from Houston. Look at the numbers.
@JoParkerBear They're doing it to you because they think you won't kick against the system in any way but as it is allowed, and they have that under control. This is your moment to decide if you're going to break the rules and do what's right, or roll over and do what's legal.
@JoParkerBear Well, that's the effect of the poisoning not just on the US. It is becoming increasingly difficult for democratic and open societies. I see dark times ahead for the USA, but also for Europe.
@MichaelMrak thanks for not just writing us off as a red state as so many do. Texas may be red, but that’s because the system itself— the way the districts are literally drawn— is rigged. Houston is the 4th largest U.S. city and it’s solid blue. So is every major Texas city, all the large population centers. It should be criminal, what they’ve done. And so many Texans don’t even know or understand this! Gen Z even grew up believing Texas is red and a hopeless state. They didn’t see what Congressman Tom DeLay did to us (before he was arrested for breaking unrelated laws.) So tragic.
