@Tutanota I'm sorry, but Session shouldn't be on this list. For the simple reason that it is a crappy App and is full of errors, it has no relevant functions, it has no appeal. Translational emails are better than Session. It is safe, there is no doubt, but its usability is very limited and it sucks.

@Tutanota Haven't tried WhatsApp, so I'm not entirely sure what qualifies as alternative.

For chat in general I use Matrix for public discourse - ala IRC or forums - and Simplex for conversation.
