Smith et al. (2019) have found that many authors like to include redundant citations when mentioning the author in the running text (Smith et al., 2019).
@FlockOfCats When my thesis needed some padding, I’d look at who people I had cited had cited and cited them directly.
Not a lie, per se, just not the complete truth.
