@monsterdon transcoding taking a little longer than usual because it's a 720p version and my server is little and itty bitty, so might be a bit after 6, but will not have any ads and be the same quality as tubi #monsterdon
@monsterdon ig i don't know for sure it won't have ads, but the only way it would is it tubi burned the ads directly into the video stream rather than inserting them in the player, which would be a really foolishly expensive thing for them to do since they'd need to re-transcode and splice the video every time their ad customers changed, but hey stranger things have happened in advertising hell #monsterdon
you can also splice video without re-transcoding it, but then you just are ensuring you get I frame deletion which is like a literal glitch editing technique lmao #monsterdon
there was never any danger, all their guns have been blanks this whole time and they just play injured as a matter of honor in cosplay cowboy town #monsterdon
i have exactly zero sense of what is supposed to happen for the next 20 minutes. they are setting up like 10 different possible plots in this scene #monsterdon
we are a) covering up a monster from the government, b) discovering the cures for all diseases, c) still protecting the town from mining companies, d) trying to capture the godmonster,
and OH WELL let's just run across the field all the way from the glory hole #monsterdon
you just had such a good thing going on with the godmonster horsing around blowing up gas stations, you don't need to pause to explain how you are gonna get em #monsterdon
@lytta the best i can come to a sympathetic read is basically this, "sundown towns are still real, they just go by other dogwhistles like 'conservation' and whatnot." I think maybe the whole godmonster side-plot is an elaborate demonstration that rules out all the other plausible explanations for the town's behavior except for racism: they don't care about the environment (throwing stuff down trash mountain), being a tourist spectacle (display of godmonster), influx of money (they do they deal with the mining company anyway, just cutting barnstable out), etc.
the part that i cut off after this clip goes "do you hear me barnstable? i've beaten you! time is the eternal judge of events, do you hear me barnstable!?" and then it zooms out to sheep. he also says "time is the eternal judge of events" in that totally inexplicable conversation in the car just before this scene. so with the other preceding dialogue "we are the custodians of an era! i have dedicated my life to the restoration of this famous bonanza citadel! the sun mountain railroad will run again on gold rails built by a new bonanza!" suggests that the ecological message is getting really mixed up but is still trying to be there too - that the town which is itself a ghost town from a prior mining boom -> ecological devastation is always doomed to repeat itself.
he apparently also actually lived in this area and wrote a whole book on its history, so i think he might have been getting mixed up and tripped over himself trying to say all that at once #monsterdon
Im still thinking about this movie. Why was the fact that this whole town dumped their trash down that hill so integral to the plot. The godmonster was the product of pollution from mining, but instead of the earth getting revenge the town just also chucked the godmonster into the dump and blew them up. Arguably the hillside dump was both the hero and the villain of the movie #monsterdon

@diazona@RufusJCooter if the rest of that movie is any guide, they are all there all the time, to the point where when you see people out there rooting around in the trash pile you don't even blink twice or acknowledge them before throwing some more on there. #monsterdon
this is sort of the best i can do to sweep up all the candy wrappers and gum after i make a mess of the common space, so to speak lol. the local feed on our instance is a wasteland post monsterdon and it's pretty much all my fault so i want to make sure the new membies know how to clean it up.
