ND3JR,

@LibrarianRA As someone from Iowa who still goes there for every holiday to be with family I'm curious what year this ad is from. We generally do have gelatin as part of the winter meals, but never a gelatin salad like this. Our "gelatin salad" is usually just gelatin with banana slices in it and maybe whipped toppping on top.

ND3JR,

@LibrarianRA Ah, a year before I was born! Also I should add that other gelatin desserts my mom made (and still makes) have strawberries and pears respectively, the pears in lime gelatin and the strawberries in (what else?) strawberry gelatin. But they still look nothing like what's in that ad.

@LibrarianRA I wonder if there are any copies of that Gelatin Salad Selector floating around. Sounds like my next antique market Holy Grail.

cultdev,

@LibrarianRA for how long did this horrendous marketing scam actually work on the public? six months, a few years, a decade? and was it only americans who fell for the con?

it’s incredible that it worked anywhere for any length of time at all

@LibrarianRA did anyone send away for the Jell-O® Gelatin Salad Selector?
