It’s late, but I wanted to see how far along I could get on the ProxMox install. It’s up and running, following a collection of walk throughs and videos I found. But, storage…

ProxMox on a 2TB NVME SSD drive.
Additional 2TB HDD, formatted but not used.
No other disks.

What’s the best way to allocate this storage? I’m thinking I should have switched the install to the other disk…

My hardware in the link.

@box464 Debian does a lot of logging. I have had proxmox bury one SSD before, so since then I've always run the base install on HDDs.

@AngryAnt Thanks. I am with you on this one. Since it’s so early in the game, I just trashed the install and moved it over to the HDD.

After a panic inducing 15 minute install (the last one took 3 minutes at most) it booted up just fine. I am going to know the install and post-install process very well lol.

@box464 I had the same experience ;)

Given this consideration, I also have the habit of, for each VM, configuring a virtual drive specifically for logging. Those drives I then put on the HDD volume and also configure them to use unsafe caching.

@box464 I use my slower SSD (128gb) for my boot drive, and my VMs on the nvme (500gb)
