    pboivin,

    @gotofritz Could it be that the business domain is just not a good fit for Go? I've been having a lot of fun learning the language in the past year but I'd never choose it for a typical CRUD web app...

  • pboivin,

    @gotofritz Sorry, maybe my comment was a bit vague. I'm wondering if some people landing on an existing project (myself included) may feel like Go was chosen for the wrong reasons. I work on a lot of very typical CRUD web applications and I'd feel much more productive using something Laravel/Rails/Django. To the point were I'd be seriously thinking about a rewrite.

    appliedgo,

    @gotofritz

    I see your doubts, but chances are that everything is just normal and Go has not "peaked".

    First, "Anecdotal evidence" is no evidence at all.

    Second, not finding developers can have a lot of reasons. It does not necessarily mean that they decrease in numbers. Maybe other companies were faster in hiring them. Or the companies that don't find developers have unreasonably high expectations.

    My "forecast": Go is an established language that is here to stay, just like C++ or Java or Python or JavaScript.

    jjude,

    @gotofritz Interesting.

    Which region is this? (I am in India).

    Do I infer that most go devs have moved to rust (or something else)?

    @gotofritz @jjude sounds a little confirmation biasy. I can not witnessed the same as you and I think if you are building largish systems in teams with varying skills than Go is still a top contender.

    If you are writing something specialized in small groups then Rust and Zig may fit better.

    I can’t imagine trying to take a new college grad that was taught Java and sit them down in from of Rust and have them be productive at all.
