@fediforum One particular one I've been looking into is the polarization of moderation policies.
For instance, someone might want an instance with free expression (particularly sexual expression), but without people being mean to one another
Another problem is the overuse of instance blocking (rather than simply as a response to extreme circumstances). It is very confusing for users from a usability standpoint, and it's a very blunt instrument.
This seems to stem a lot from the "my house my rules" type culture which permeates the fediverse.
@fediforum virtually all have very limited agency in terms of look and features and are subject to moderation. E.g. they can't theme their blogs like myspace etc. And are usually sub-tenants, not house owners.
@fediforum I think ActivityPub when it’s promoted as the one tech to solve all things Fediverse then also promotes such monoculture and dodges complex questions of interoperability and plurality
