@Taffer i think my favorite character ever was a super strength/earth armor brute with superspeed, so yeah, feeling the brute love
not sure how long imma stick with sentinel (which is like a tanky blaster) because, idk, ranged dps just doesnt have the same feeling as impact as melee
@massivelyop Solid take. I'd add that good DMing for D&D often means dressing up a player's misses with flavor (especially if they keep missing). Older RPGs were cool saying MISS all the time in bold letters, but I prefer a Hit (Absorbed) or Hit (Dodged) any day.
Good Morning Folks! I had completely forgotten that City of Heroes had zone-wide events. Other than the Halloween events in Everquest... this might have been one of the first major timed reoccurring events in games that I had experienced.
This morning I talked about happening upon a raid group doing the event last night and joining in the fun.
The podcast this weekend stirred up all sorts of nostalgia about #CityOfHeroes so yesterday I installed the Homecoming client and pretty much spent all day wandering around Paragon City.
The sound design more than anything else plucks my heartstrings. This is still a great game and gives a window into what "peak MMORPG" looked like just before the launch of World of Warcraft.
@massivelyop Got the email this morning, definitely good news on that front. One of the things I found interesting from their forums "Live streaming and YouTube videos of gameplay footage on Homecoming will continue to be permitted. Monetization is also permitted, but all video content must be free for the viewer to access (ie: no paywalled content)."
@joshb We assumed that was a throwback to the period in 2020/2021 when NC & HC put a moratorium on streaming (folks were making copyright-infringing characters to stream them, so we assume NCsoft wanted to avoid another superhero legal battle). At the time, HC said they'd lift the rule when negotiations were over, but they actually ended it in 2021, just with more TOS blips over copyright violations.
