@Faintdreams Oooh, that’s a tough ask. The only one I can think of is Espedair Street by Iain Banks. It’s about an aging Scottish rock star with the mystery being what happened to his band and the romance being if he can reconnect with his first girlfriend from before he was famous. One of my favourite books but I think it falls outside your date range.
@Faintdreams Hmm, tricky. I think mystery tends to gravitate towards murder, or at least plausible murder, because of its shockingness.
Romances probably tend to happen in mystery stories more than mysteries tend to happen in romance stories. (van Dine was complaining that "There must be no love interest" in 1928.)
@RogerBW oooh I know that A. Christie was adamant about film adaptations not creating a Love Interest for Poirot, but didn't realize other writers considered it a cornerstone of the Crime / Mystery genre.
