xylophilist, The Perseus molecular cloud is a giant molecular cloud located approximately 1000 light-years away in the constellation of Perseus. It comprises gas and dust weighing over 10,000 solar masses in an area of sky 6 by 2 degrees.
The gas-cloud is nearly invisible except for two clusters, IC 348 and NGC 1333, where low-mass stars are formed.
