jfml,

@mardelvallearts Did Redbubble recently pull off something that artists get only 20% and they get 80%? Is this already life?

mardelvallearts,

@jfml I've not heard about this update, but I may have missed it. However, as Redbubble manages the materials, production, shipping, and all that stuff, they have a base price for each product, and to that price you add your artist margin. The result of the addition of both is the final price. 20% is the default artists margin, but you can change it in general or by product, and depending on which margin you choose the final retail price increases or decreases.

mardelvallearts,

@jfml You can read it better explained here (my English is not very "business-y"):
https://help.redbubble.com/hc/en-us/articles/202270799-How-much-do-I-earn-from-my-sales-

mardelvallearts,

@jfml I understand the reasoning behind this method, we artists don't usually get much money with it because we are afraid to go wild with our margin and increase the price too much.

That's why I prefer Etsy, but of course, in there I only have prints, postcards and original art because producing other stuff myself is always an investment and a risk, while on Redbubble there are many more options and I don't have to worry about anything but uploading and adjusting my designs.

mardelvallearts,

@jfml Well, forget everything I just said, today I was told that everything has changed and Redbubble is now working with membership levels and is taking an extra fee for lower incomes, and many people are going to delete their shop. Obviously I missed the email, time to find it, study it and maybe make some decisions -_______-

jfml,

@mardelvallearts Oooof, just wanted to say thanks for your explanations. It's so sad that Redbubble is doing this, personally I've never been very satisfied with their product quality but the range of products is amazing. I was looking at an option of doing on demand poster printing and RB seemed to be one of the better options. I don't think Inprnt does this (their print quality is amazing)

mardelvallearts,

@jfml I understand! And yes, it is sad. I'm afraid I have zero experience with Inprnt, though I really appreciate to know that their quality is good just in case I decide to try in the future. But I'm sure that lots of people here would be happy to help you regarding Inprnt if you ask, as they have helped me with other inquiries.
