No #woman reading this post (and perhaps only some men) will be surprised that in work on #gender in the #workplace, McKinsey found that women 'are twice as likely to be interrupted & hear comments on their emotional state' which also leads to 'a third of women who don’t speak up to share an opinion [doing so] because they don’t want to appear disagreeable'!

Anyone who thinks the work of #feminism is largely done, is (sadly) fooling themselves!

@ChrisMayLA6 At the same time, we were never as close to true gender equality as we are now.

This in no way is meant to contradict you.

All I’m saying is: don’t give up, we’re getting there.

@proedie @ChrisMayLA6 I agree with you, but still so much to get done!

Being a woman in a tech I find most men are amazing. But there is always one or two that seem to not trust, or even dislike that a woman is now an equal in the field. Giving them time and patience they usually accept me as an equal.

Except for very few, very annoying and toxic exceptions that use any opportunity available to remind you «what your place is». And those tend to end up as leads, bosses and such :-(

@mewbassprr @ChrisMayLA6 Certain personality types always seem to end up as bosses or serial killers.

@proedie @ChrisMayLA6 exactly, and those are not only bad for women or minorities. They also bother everyone else, I have seen quite a few men ask to be changed to other teams due to toxic people in charge.

But they often make up polite excuses to be changed, to avoid conflicts. Then the talent goes away from the team and the problem remains unsolved.

@mewbassprr @ChrisMayLA6 Yes, I’ve seen this too. I even met two toxic pastors of all things.

One of them enjoyed being seen as generous and kind in public, while he was manipulating women working in the parish to make them feel insignificant. Especially one, and after she left, he chose another one. It was some sort of power game.

(Regarding the other pastor, I have too little information to go into details.)

@proedie @mewbassprr @ChrisMayLA6 Toxic pastors are not really surprising. Most I've met are. Christianity, as a whole, is a patriarchal religion. Patriarchy itself is the toxicity in this context.

In the west, it's very difficult to separate Christianity, Patriarchy, and colonization as they're inextricably linked.
