Today I learned: I can SSH from #powershell to my #linux machines effortlessly. This is a game changer!

jaykul,

@cjerrington and vice-versa ;-)

@jaykul ohh even better. I’ll need to travel this road more.

If you're not using Windows Terminal and setting up profiles, then I highly recommend you look into it.

@ludothegreat I’ve been using Windows Terminal more lately. Been using Tabby for quite a while as well. Profiles have been great for PS5, PS7, cmd, and other special things like ssh.

kkarhan,

@cjerrington doesn't have a good ( isn't even competing with , much less with or ) so I'm not shure whether aims to do that.

Personally, I hope Windows gets axed and FLOSSes all needed to get and to have Feature Parity in terms of 's and 's to , since revenue and profitability of one-time-purchase software is constantly sinking and in terms of , & are better...

Why do you say PowerShell is less than bash, &c? What do you think it's missing? Have you used PowerShell much?

kkarhan,

@dataelemental @cjerrington it's just ugly to even look at due to so many inconsistencies.

I'd rather learn and daily drive #tcsh, #csh, #ksh and original #sh instead.

What Powershell is missing:

performance (I recently wrote a DB export and the SQL command fills up to max length with zeros! It took days to run!)

open source community

basic command line tools (cat, grep, sed, awk, etc. - I know Powershell has similar functionality but it's super tedious to use)

The only positive thing for me is the integration into Windows/.NET. (eg the connection to MSSQL Server was really easy)

kkarhan,

@13reak @dataelemental @cjerrington So basically a piss-poor experience aside from .not and other stuff that should not be used anymore...

I think should just deprecate their , all of it and focus on the real moneymakers like and instead.

@13reak @cjerrington
I think the experience of any tool is really mostly about whether you're fighting against the idiomatic usage it's designed for.

kkarhan,

@dataelemental @13reak @cjerrington Personally I wasted 15 years of my life with and I do regret not having made the switch to 5-10+ years earlier, because Windows to this day doesn't have a good / nor absolute basics like a to keep stuff updated, so every application has to DIY it's own updates like some Caveman-made Ghettohack of a program...

Not to mention the mess re: and it's ...
