Those Automobile Color Collection ones look great 🤩 😍 . I only have a regular Black one that I think looks very cool too 😎 . I think the PlayStation 2 is one of the best looking game consoles and they are a great console to have even nowadays with it's large list of games. 😃

@jake4480@c.im avatar

@light so true! Yeah I have a black one I got to replace another black one that died - I've only ever had black too. Always have my eye out for those other colors though 👀 🤣

@jake4480
I'm sorry to hear that your's died. :blobfoxsad:
Good luck hunting down one, the colored ones show up every now and then. 🛒, it's not impossible to find one but they are somewhat more rare.
Mine is working fine without any problems. 😊
Those special colored ones are looking fabulous 🤩, but they always way more expensive then the black ones, at least the ones I have seen.
I'm fine with only admiring them on images or seeing them showed off in YouTube videos. 😁😅

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@light they ARE expensive - I'm hoping to find one in the wild? Like garage sale or thrift store or something haha. But I did buy a new one when my old one died- this ones fat, the one that died was slim. And I had a fat before that too haha

@light@hachyderm.io avatar

@jake4480
👍 Garage sales are a great place to find stuff that are somewhat more rare in a good price and even thrift stores if they are available in your local area.
I only ever had one and that's a fat model, never really looked at the slim ones. I already decided later on I want to buy an original Network Adapter and add a HDD, that was one of the reasons I bought the fat one, the other reason being I think it looks better. 😎

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@light nice. Yeah the fats are easier to mod. I was trying to do that, with a Freemcboot, as I've modded the NES, SNES, PS1 minis.. But for PS2 apparently you need a drive for all the ROMs/isos - they're so much bigger and they don't just play off a thumb drive 🙄🤣

@light@hachyderm.io avatar

@jake4480
Some games can be played from an USB drive, but there are plenty that will have problems. Some won't even start up it crashes immediately, others have problems with the FMV (full-motion video) playback being to choppy ruining the experience of playing the games in the first place.
Yeah PS2 games can get really big especially if there were release as multi disc games and even some of the single disc games can go as high as 8GB, like for example Yakuza 2.

@jake4480@c.im avatar

@light haha true. I mostly wanted to play dumb crap like the Futurama game 🤣😂 the USA version is super pricey.

jigmedatse,
@jigmedatse@social.jigmedatse.com avatar

@jake4480 I have to say, it's a darn fine looking console.

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@jigmedatse it REALLY is. Sleek and smallish - it's the most recent PlayStation I have. 🤣 I recently had to grab another one when my older one died, too. I even have a PS2 game on the way to me from eBay right now 🤣😂 Rayman!

@jake4480 Hey, whatever you have, that you're actually using, is awesome. A few years back, I was desperate for a console, and wanted something recent, so got a Nintendo Switch, which even then was a bit behind the current PlayStation and XBox. Part of what sold me, was being easy to play hand held. And I would be kicking myself if I knew this experience, and instead opted for one of those other consoles. I mean, I'm pretty sure some people are using stuff like Atari because they enjoy them.

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@jigmedatse ha! Exactly. I emulate Atari 2600 and 7800 games but I do love playing them. And I love our Switch too, wifey and I both play a lot. We waited 3 years after it came out to grab one, it was still a financial hit for us back then. 😅 I have a bunch of old consoles too - the oldest being an Intellivision that was gifted to me- I need a new cable for it. But old games are so cool.

Did you see this post I wrote a few days ago? Probably my 20 favorite games of all time. Some of them are from the 80s and I still play all of them regularly 😍 https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2024/04/06/20-video-games-i-cant-stop-thinking-about

@jigmedatse@social.jigmedatse.com avatar

@jake4480 I don't think I have, as the link doesn't look familiar. Before the Apple ][+, we had a "pong" machine. Though not really an official one, I think it was a Radio Shack knock off or something. That was the last console before the Switch. So console gaming really hasn't been a thing. We played "proper computer games." Which was a silly attitude. Now most of the comptuers are Linux, so the Switch is the most usable as a gaming machine (well there's a Windows 11 machine...)

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@jigmedatse ha! A lot of these are definitely ones I did on computers, or arcade machines. I'm not a HUGE console gamer, sometimes. But I'm also just as happy jumping on DOSGames.com and just doing some weird old roguelike or platformer. So many older games really had amazing concepts, you HAD to do a lot with the gameplay, the graphics weren't there. But I LIKED that. These new games wanna be movies. Ugh. I don't wanna play a movie. haha

jigmedatse,
@jigmedatse@social.jigmedatse.com avatar

@jake4480 I think some of the "movie" type games can be fine, but really so many of the games don't really have gameplay that makes them a whole lot better as a player, than watching someone else play. There's one I've been playing on the iPad, where a lot of time, I'm like... "what if I do this which is clearly not what was planned..." and the answer is, "you can't."

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@jigmedatse true. My thing is long, complicated tutorials, needing to use all kinds of buttons.. the most of that I do is for Diablo games, which I love, so I will put in the extra time. I was going through the Doom Eternal tutorial and just quit. I didn't even play the game. They make you play this long-ass unskippable tutorial, with all these controls and commands, grappling, ducking, I don't want to do any of that. Doom should be run and shoot. hahaha

jigmedatse,
@jigmedatse@social.jigmedatse.com avatar

@jake4480 I would say... If you have to do a tutorial beyond, "hey here's a situation that you seem stuck in, maybe try this..." you're doing it wrong. I don't half mind if I get stuck actually having to look up a guide, and get basic game mechanics from that.

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@jigmedatse absolutely. Or make the first level the tutorial, like Mario. Stuff like that. Make it intuitive, I guess some people want all kinds of complicated actions they can do? Not me. I tried Deus Ex the other day, same deal. My kid was laughing at me struggling through the first part. No thanks 😂

jigmedatse,
@jigmedatse@social.jigmedatse.com avatar

@jake4480 I'm not a fan of complicated actions. My hands tend to not work that well with it. If things work, sure... But someone was talking about a game I gave up on, because in the battle section, I just wasn't making progress, and the game makes it very clear... "if you die too many times, you will lose your save file." It mostly was "enjoyable" but so much of it was not so much fun because of enjoying the play, but because once you got the story advancing. I'd rather read a book.

jake4480,
@jake4480@c.im avatar

@jigmedatse wow. Yeah what's with that - dying too many times and losing your save file?!? That is some NONSENSE. Just nasty dark patterns in games haha. Wow. Yeah, it needs to be enjoyable. That's key.
