Rescued a meme without alt-text.

Beyond including #UBI, the original version of what is now called monopoly had a cooperative or "Prosperity" mode.

The whole point of the game was to show how competing for profit destroys society!

The game was created to be a "practical demonstration of the present system of land grabbing with all its usual outcomes and consequences".

@FantasticalEconomics Interesting. Ive always found monopoly very boring. During covid my kid added some extra "chance" cards like "Socialist Revolution! - all money held by all players is pooled and distributed equally". or "Wealth Tax - the richest player gives one Hotel to the poorest player".

A real game changer..

@FantasticalEconomics
So, Parker Bros not only developed their own version of Landlord just in case negotiations to buy the patent fell apart, bought the patent, bought another similar game from someone else, etc etc. They bought the competition so they'd have the hottest game in town called...Monopoly?

@tinsmith @FantasticalEconomics @AnneTheWriter1 when I was a kid I played Eurobusiness, a Polish knock-off from ‘80. Distributor didn’t get memo that deritive work (shameless copy-paste rather) is subject to copyright infringement I guess. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/42050/eurobusiness
