There's so much overlap between the two that it's questionable to me if they're even separate at all. Both affect the prefrontal cortex and the dopamine reward circuits in similar ways. And the same drugs are often used for both. And #depression or #bipolar is a common side effect of #ADHD.
@thor as that are possible symptoms and not everyone experiences all those symptoms i would say its definitely two separate conditions.
and i can tell from experience, there are times i just experienced the symptoms in the ADHD circle, the rest developed and massively changed over time.
but yes there are similarities, but if its just one of both its important to differentiate and get the right treatment/support, because the wrong one makes everything worse in almost all cases.
@thor as far as i remember the problems with those pathways arise from different sources? but i am no neuroscientist/doctor and having issues remembering the details and placing them at the correct domain. so maybe my memory is messing something up there.
@glowl What I know for certain is that at least a few drugs are prescribed for both, such as Wellbutrin. While this most definitely does not prove that the underlying cause is the same, it does suggest that similar remedies can be effective for both. I'm not saying there is no difference. I'm saying that if the conditions were people, they'd be cousins or siblings.
What's funny about the above diagram is that if you combine both of those circles, you have me on a good day and me on a bad day. Me simply functioning like a normal person? Almost doesn't happen. #depression#bipolar#ADHD
