Platforms like #AirBNB & VRBO cause massive messes across #Texas (and the globe). In #Fredericksburg, 1,900+ short-term units now comprise nearly 25 percent of the housing inventory.
@TexasObserver It's not just Texas. It's everywhere! In Nashville, they are tearing down affordable housing and replacing it with humongous 8-bedroom "homes" that are used as STRPs.
@TexasObserver Wow, I grew up in TX but somehow never thought about how frightening Airbnbs could be to neighbors where everyone has guns.
My neighborhood is curiously empty of the things despite being walking distance from BOS Logan. We are a neighborhood of more tire-irons than firearms.
It took getting used to (a neighbor ran across the street days after I moved in to ask if it was my car parked on street sweeping day) but this makes me even more grateful for it.
@TexasObserver we see this where I live too, a small tourist town north of Seattle. So many people have turned rentable apartments & houses into STR properties, that the people who work in all these service business can’t even find, let alone afford, a place to rent. Small places w/o a full kitchen that wouldn’t be a sustainable full time residence aren’t the issue. People who own a 2nd home for vacation & want to make a little $$ when not using aren’t the issue either.
@TexasObserver We're dealing with our own cancer of AirBNB in my part of Canada; it's a shame our politicians are you too much on the take to fix this.
