I'm curious to see how many people work in their own bedrooms, or have a dedicated or shared room that they use, and how they feel about those arrangements.
Seeing stuff about reddit being posted to 10 different technology boards, plus reddit-themed ones, then reposted further just makes this whole idea a mess. Reposts have to be consolidated into a single comment thread.
I think that eventually, we will reach a level of content creation where people either don't feel the need to cross post, or that you don't need to subscribe to 10 closely-related magazines.
I hope so, but there seem to be a significant amount of people who think that every instance should be their own community. I don’t quite understand what they even want federation for then, but they are very outspoken.
There was a post about how beehaw was defederating from shitjustworks and lemmy.world about 6 hours ago. Are we involved in that, as are we a subset of lemmyworld?...
This is a bit too hard. So many shows I loved: Firefly, Fringe, BSG, Expanse, Killjoys, Dark Matter, Night Sky, Silo (only watched 3 episodes so far but read the books, and it’s everything I wanted), Stargate SG1, Stargate Universe, Person of Interest, Helix (S1, not idea WTF S2 even was about :D)
That’s already skipping stuff I liked, but didn’t love :D
Greetings, kbeans! I wanted to inform you that Kbin Link is now available on the Firefox Extension Store. If you're interested, you can find more information about it here: https://github.com/driccio98/kbin-link....
The regex for your community in options.html should be ^([a-zA-Z0-9\-ßàÁâãóôþüúðæåïçèõöÿýòäœêëìíøùîûñé]{1,63}\.)+[a-zA-Z]{2,63}$
Not sure if there’s some issue I can’t think of, but it probably can even be simplified to ^([\w-]{1,63}\.)+[a-zA-Z]{2,63}$
The current one, for example, doesn’t allow subdomain instances like kbin.example.org I already created a PR for the first version for the lemmy extension, but maybe someone can say why the simpler version would/wouldn’t be okay ;)
Folk Metal is probably my favorite genre. I like it proggy, blackened, or deadened (does one use that?), but also on the quieter side as I like folk rock (and the German medieval metal/rock stuff) as well ;)
Grindcore once in a while, blackened death or plain death with some melody, electro/industrial/noise crossovers are other subgenres.
Sometimes power metal, but that’s rather limited to a few bands.
Germany: Spiegel.de, one of the biggest online news magazines reported today, heise.de (big pop tech news site) had several articles. But alas, without Reddit and /r/de I don’t actually hear much about media in my country :D
That is not the whole solution. Communities would still be lost. Even if someone then created a new one, only a fraction of the subscribers would join or even know about it.
Since the beta release on the 1st, I’ve been playing the Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader beta. But not finding as much time as I want, I only have 30h so far. I played the Alpha when it was released, but stopped after one playthrough. Haven’t had ship combat yet (recently arrived in footfall), but everything improved over the alpha, and even the alpha was probably better than Pathfinder: Kingmaker or Wrath of the Righteous right on release ;)
For those who don’t know, it’s a turn-based Warhammer 40k CRPG by the same company who did the 2 Pathfinder Games, Owlcat Games.
The title basically. I'm wondering if @ernest is planning on adding 2FA at some point (unless it's already implemented and I just couldn't find it?). I recognize stuff is pretty busy right now, but it would be nice to get some extra security for our accounts....
Huh? Why would 2FA providers cost money? I use pretty much the fanciest 2FA (hardware token) on my nextcloud instance, that's just as free as TOTP. The only 2FA I can think of that costs money would be SMS and that should only be used as a last resort.
This question is especially for people who have joined in the last week. Have you used other fediverse platforms or is this your first time really using one? What do you think of it so far? Are you aware that you can comment on Lemmy posts with a Mastodon account?
I’ve been using XMPP/Jabber since around 2005, but that’s only federated, not part of the fediverse ;)
As Mastodon seemed more like modern social media (aka. follow influencers/famous people, not people you know), I never used it. I did once try Secure Scuttlebutt, but besides the super janky experience (in comparison, Lemmy is a polished idiot-proof apple experience), it ended up simply not being interesting to me. So Lemmy/kbin is my first proper fediverse usage.
But can every instance can set up their own "Games" community for example? What happens then?
Yes, there are now 2 "games" communities.
Doesn't it get rather fragmented?
Yes. There are discussions about doing stuff like multi-reddits, thought there is also a line of thought that only one will win.
If people settle in one or two communities out of all, doesn't that sort of defeat the whole point of federation?
No. Or yes. Depends on what you think federation means ;) Lets say, Instance A host "games". It’s the big one everyone subscribes to. Now me, from instance B, subs to games@A, B will now get all the content from that community. It can’t be easily censored, and mods power-tripping can be discovered. And you don’t need to register on A to join the discussion. One could reasonably say, that that’s certainly a point of federation.
Personally I think there are a lot of issues and weaknesses, both conceptually, and UI-wise, that need to get ironed out over the next few weeks, months, and years.
What room do you work from?
I'm curious to see how many people work in their own bedrooms, or have a dedicated or shared room that they use, and how they feel about those arrangements.
The fediverse isn't going to work if top pages consist of the same link 10x reposted.

Introducing Kbin Link: Navigate between communities with ease
Greetings, kbeans! I wanted to inform you that Kbin Link is now available on the Firefox Extension Store. If you're interested, you can find more information about it here: https://github.com/driccio98/kbin-link....
I'd love a community vibe check. What is everybody into? Subgenres/Bands/Favorite albums... let's talk about what we like.

Do media in your country inform about Reddit blackout?
Asking especially those living outside USA.
What would happen if kbin's admin (ernest), or any other admin of a server( by that I mean Mastodon, Lemmy, not an instance of kbin) one day decided he's going to pull a spez?
For kbin in particular, what would happen to an instance's Magazines(subreddits), the communities would just go poof?...
What Are You Playing?
Old School Doom for me mostly with new wad files on GZDoom
How to get magazines to be seen in lemmy?
i've noticed some kbin magazines can't be found by searching at lemmy.ml/communities...

Is Lemmy your first time on the Fediverse?
This question is especially for people who have joined in the last week. Have you used other fediverse platforms or is this your first time really using one? What do you think of it so far? Are you aware that you can comment on Lemmy posts with a Mastodon account?
