@zrythm I have experienced trouble with your application being rendered unopenable by the command line. I have tried moving ALL of the contents from the /opt/ directory to the /usr/local/ directory without success, and I remain unsure why this application must use the /opt/ directory only used by one other application on my system. Why does this application need the /opt/ directory?

zrythm,
@zrythm@mastodon.social avatar

@novaTopFlex this is not the correct way to run it. You should either use the application shortcut in your distro applications or use the full path to zrythm_launch in the installed path under /opt/zrythm<version>/bin

>Why does this application need the /opt/ directory?

To avoid clashes with other software/libraries installed by your distro or by yourself (/usr/local is usually the default prefix when installing software)

More intuitive/concise track context menu coming soon!

can now easily be built in ! This uses internally to download and build all dependencies so no need to worry about dependencies when building Zrythm yourself.

Try it by cloning https://github.com/zrythm/zrythm inside GNOME Builder! Great for easily contributing code, debugging and testing latest features in-between releases.

Re: binary pricing

Some people mentioned it would be better to keep Bundle and Subscription and drop Single, because Single is confusing.

See https://accounts.zrythm.org/en/products/selection

Should the "Single" option be dropped?

zrythm,
@zrythm@mastodon.social avatar

@macberg

I think it's confusing because it's unusual.

Quoting from a user who said it was confusing:

>There's some pretty stupid pricing, like $15 for a certain version, that you have to pay $15 for every minor update.

@macberg

Thanks for the feedback. Perhaps I could just lower the price then, or reword the description a bit to make it clear that it's an executable that doesn't receive any updates (ideas welcome).

@macberg Snapshot sounds like a good keyword, thanks!

For navigation in arrangers, should Zrythm use:

  1. a minimap that allows to adjust the view both horizontally and vertically (a selection area like https://i.stack.imgur.com/KJOkE.png), in the bottom of the timeline/piano roll
  2. a minimap that allows adjusting the view horizontally only (http://non.tuxfamily.org/non-timeline-panzoomer.png) at the bottom of the timeline/piano roll + a vertical scrollbar on the right

*this is in addition to existing scrollwheel-based and alt/middleclick-based navigation

vs opinions wanted:

  1. works best on Wayland and has various issues on X11 that won't receive attention
  2. All audio plugins on GNU/Linux are written for X11 and some plugins crash when opened in a pure Wayland application
  3. Plugins crashing can be avoided by bridging (ran in another process)
  4. Bridging plugins avoids plugin-caused crashes but has a performance cost

What should Zrythm do?
(currently: X11 mode is forced and non-whitelisted plugins are bridged by default)

zrythm,
@zrythm@mastodon.social avatar

@hamoid it already is with GDK_BACKEND env variable, and you can right click on a plugin to set how it should be instantiated (the setting is remembered per plugin)

To #JACK users (no pipewire): can you record MIDI and audio from external devices successfully in Zrythm?
