@zlatiah@chat.zlatiah-no.one

Hi, I am running a single-user instance at chat.zlatiah-no.one.

I'm owned by two cats, Mew and Tommy. My profile picture is an abstract representation of Tommy, and the banner is Tommy with a coffee mug.

This is a personal account without a particular theme in mind, so I post all kinds of stuff. Opinions are my own. See intro post below for more details.

If you want to follow me: please make sure 1) you have a profile and 2) you are not too off-putting for a regular person on the Fediverse. I typically follow back approved follows.

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

I like the fact that after so many years of search engine advancements, my current best strategy to search online about something is... to find an age-old Reddit post where some dudes are just recommending stuff

zlatiah, to random

Uhhh no I think my RPi borked itself...

GoodwillFinds finally shipped my order :blobcat:

Ordered on 5/29, just shipped today from a Colorado Goodwill... we'll see whether the computer is functional once it arrives

Quoting Arch Wiki:

"""
Japanese versions of Windows encode ZIP archives with Shift-JIS. By default, these archives will suffer from mojibake filenames when extracted. To extract properly, use unzip in the command-line using the shift-jis option.
$ unzip -O shift-jis nihongo.zip
"""

Why did no one tell me this earlier 😂

zlatiah,

@felix I don't even use Arch right now 💀 But yeah the Arch Wiki is so helpful for... every Linux user, I guess

The electrician came in on Tuesday this week, furniture ppl came in on Wed but refused to install the stove due to complications... and then the electrician called in sick and probably won't be fixing it until tomoreow. It's now end of the workweek and I still don't have a functional stove, and my parents hate eating out

Murphy's Law is going exactly as described huh 😑

zlatiah, to random

Dunno how I did it but I somehow got over 2000 Lucky Strike credits on my card... I guess that's like $20? Got a water bottle and two cat toys for free from that. Only paid $30 for the card too

I guess I won the local arcade 😂

I'm embarassed to see how much money I spent in May because it was a moving month...

First time playing , game was really fun! Game leaned into the form factor of a pad quite well...

Seems like difficulty scale goes up to 15-16 to this game... 15 is a bit hectic, but up until 13 seems manageable

Tried to get a used computer from GoodWillFinds. They refused to let me enter my apartment number because "no delivery to PO boxes", so this is a good sign...

I am curious whether the computer will actually boot once it arrives

Good... the new tablet is finally usable for rhythm games now. After I disabled all the gesture controls (3-button presses mess with a LOT of charts) and switched navigation from "virtual bar" to "gestures" (virtual bar pops up at most inappropriate times)

Now... just have to wear my gloves if I ever want to play AstroDX, otherwise sliding across the screen is impossible

zlatiah, to random

I was told the electrician would be here at 9 am... 9:36 now

To do for next rhythm game....

beatoraja is an open source java-based Beatmania IIDX clone. A bit janky to set up, but seems to work as long as I have the correct java/jdk versions installed (the github page has detailed instructio,ns)

I can probably try to play some songs with keyboard first, if it works then... controller?

From my understanding IIDX might be the literally most difficult rhythm game ever, so I am kinda looking forward to it

MF I just wanted to play bootleg maimaiAstroDX, this is what I actually did

  • Purchased the largest tablet I could find (Lenovo P12)
  • Setup and try my best to debloat the system
  • Install the game
  • Setup a Google Account (ugh)
  • Install "FV File Explorer" because apparently this is one of the only apps that can access /Android/data/
  • Move songs to /Android/data/
zlatiah, to random

I... was not anticipating that my new Android tablet doesn't even allow me to access Android/data/

Seriously what in the world Google

zlatiah, to Cat

Dunno what happened but they both decided to loaf on my dad and don't get down... 😂 #cat #cats

A bit scuffed but this is my arcade setup... for now

Definitely not spending $1k+ to get a cab, and I don't know/couldn't do woodwork, so... yeah

Probably just need a dedicated SBC with an external GPU to complete the setup

zlatiah, to random

I'm done with this. Probably won't try to write super long posts like this next time... too mentally demanding for me

Anyways it was my thoughts about Houston

I'm honestly impressed the IR touchscreen converter actually worked. Plugged onto the laptop and I was able to... well, pass my hand through the thing and see my mouse moving

Probably also need a TV protector screen if I want to use this to convert my TV to an actual touchscreen...

Bought this inspired by a recent Lemmy post... OK this is pretty hilarious

Looks like I finally realized what went wrong with my blog...

Seems like I wrote the docker config file wrong. All my other services reboot automatically, but the nginx dockers don't reboot themselves if the server shuts down for any reason (which there may be many). Maybe I forgot the restart unless stopped line

Yesterday I had to reboot my homeserver aaand guess what... Firefish and SearXNG restarted as usual, blog is down again

Hopefully I just need to rewrite the configs later today

zlatiah, to random

Huh... maybe PiHole is working after all. I literally just realized after 12 hours of using the new OS that I haven't installed uBlock Origin yet

Oh god... finally, the Framework laptop is unbricked now

Required a main board change and me nuking everything from the SSD...

zlatiah,

@slashtechno actually not even the warranty, the support team gave me a replacement for free after some back and forth emailing

I... do hope this won't happen in the future though

zlatiah,

@slashtechno @frameworkcomputer ahh I see... I only got the 13, but yeah the GPU on this thing might not be strong enough. Supposedly Frameworks are more expensive but compensate in that you can repair them easily, but $2k upfront is not cheap whatsoever

Wonder what the Framework folks have to say...
