Regardless of what happens in the keynote today with calculators, I wanted to say that I’ve been dealing with a serious family health crisis for the last three months, and I’ve spent a lot of that time around hospitals.

So, please don’t add to my stresses today by tagging me in a million things about getting Sherlocked because, genuinely, even if Apple destroys my entire business today, it’s not going to be my biggest concern.

@drahardja I own some TSLA and there's no way I would vote to approve that. Especially after he fired so many people. It boggles my mind to understand why he wants all that money after firing so many people.

I guess the judge can go from zero to four years in prison. If he gets zero and a slap on the wrist it would be a real slap in the face to United States Law.

Lmao, our hotel for next weekend in Montreal (Formula 1 weekend) has cancelled our booking because they are "overbooked"

We booked last July, and they are informing us 1 week before arrival?!

To me, it sounds like it's because I booked before they had the chance to hike their rates. And now I have to scramble to find somewhere else.

Sometimes I watch old Apple keynotes and marvel at Steve’s masterful presentations. I know it was the result of countless hours of prep and rehearsal, but the skill on display continues to put other speakers to shame, making Steve’s performance seem light, effortless, and inevitable. Like, of course this product works that way, and of course this rationale is so logical. It’s an achievement that I think remains unmatched to this day, and I miss it.

@command_tab I agree. I've seen so many Stevenotes live at WWDC and none of the fancy presentations they do now can match the excitement of watching Steve perform his magic.

What’s the number 1 thing that you want to achieve in the next few months?

For me this will be shipping at least one more course re-explore SwiftData and significantly increase my blog and YouTube contents with both “fundamental” content as well as proper deep dives

So yeah, that’s not just a number 1 thing 😂 if I had to summarize “expand my educational offering”

@donnywals I've been working on a big new version of my app for almost 2 years now. Need to expand the pool of beta testers some more before then but I think it'll be ready in the next couple months to go full public. Always a scary thing. Especially for an app like Tap Forms.

Speaking of Victoria Day, I presented at WWDC once on that day, and got the crowd to stand up and sing "God Save the Queen."

(A nice followup to the previous year's WWDC session on WebObjects Debugging, where we stood to sing the anthem of the home country <cough>🇨🇦</cough> of the winner of the World WebObjects Debugging Contest during the medal ceremony.)

I would like it if more conference presenters could get the crowd to stand and sing.

Does anybody have any experiences with using Apple's in-app subscriptions for an AppKit app? I understand that third party frameworks like RevenueCat are unavailable.. so how hard is it to implement yourself and how much hassle is it day-to-day release-to-release?

Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

@frankreiff Although still in development and haven't published to production yet, I've integrated RevenueCat into my AppKit app. I did write my own Paywall for it though. Not sure what you mean by it's unavailable.

@frankreiff That's their Scale plan I think. The Pro plan is 1% of sales above $2500 USD I believe. I don't know the difference between plans yet. Just looking into it. It was a while ago I decided to use @revenuecat so I don't know if things have changed since then pricing wise. I thought they had a $10K MTR free or low price tier at one point. I can't afford $1700 / month either.

@frankreiff From what I've been reading on their site, you would pay a maximum of $30 / month if you hit your $3000/month goal. And nothing if under $2500 USD in a month. I'll probably be on the Pro plan for a while since I'm just a solo indie developer and don't need the things the Scale plan offers. That is, if I'm reading it all correctly. The Pro plan is a good deal I think.

@frankreiff I started my paywall code (in SwiftUI) before they added their own Paywall feature. I tried their's out on the iOS version of my app, but just stuck with my own as I preferred my solution and seemed to work well enough. I guess I'll see once I go to production with it how it does.

    @schwa for a moment I thought that was a Canada flag. And I felt ashamed for it being so huge. But upon closer inspection I don't know what flag that is.

    Flags are fine and all, but we don't need to scream them out loud like that.

    I generally don't see that many Canadian flags around unless it's Canada Day. There's certainly none on any of the houses in my neighbourhood.

    Starting a new project recently and:

    • Wading in to the SwiftData waters and added saving to a context, and I’m impressed. Gave the app an infinite loop at the view layer and we’ll fix that later.
    • Doodled a couple candidates for a development and alternate app icon! Someone has to bring a little culture.
    • Just that tiny bit of progress today but the momentum is what’s important.
