OpenAI seems to be in a bubble where they think they can do what they want without consequences. They had been trying to get Scarlet Johansson to agree to voice a ChatGPT bot for a year. She said no. They used a very similar voice anyway. Cue lawyers and weaselly backtracking. A must-read from Casey Newton. #OpenAI#LLMhttps://www.platformer.news/open-ai-scarlett-johansson-her-voice-sam-altman/
@ianRobinson I wonder... Is there something about tech success that drives you to lose all sense of humanity? Or are morally damaged people disproportionately successful in tech? Or does amazing amounts of money pervert the soul?
A plea... let's dustbin the phrases #climatechange and #globalwarming. They sound sedate. They're distancing, easy to ignore. Even positive. (A less cold, damp spring in Scotland is hard to refuse!)
Instead, let's talk about the end game - we are on the brink of 'climate collapse'. A collapse in existing food production capabilities, starvation, wars over water, deaths through extreme weather.
Let's start bringing home to our communities that our way of life will end.
@ianRobinson
I get that their theatrical politics seems risible. But on the other hand, they have an ex-president do some illegal stuff, and he's being hounded through several court rooms and might end up in jail.
Arguably Johnson, Truss & Sunak have escaped any accountability for unbelievable corruption, needless deaths, massive incompetence and tanking the economy.
I’m acutely aware that I am now a 50+ grumpy old man but things like Apple forcing an “MLS Season Pass” into my Apple TV app’s sidebar (above most of the sections I will use) has irritated me more than it really should.
We’ll ignore that I had to reboot the Apple TV to get it to show my previous purchases (only mild panic) and celebrate that it’s now been over a year since I made a digital purchase so when I finally snap I’ll still have things to watch thanks to moving back to physical media.
@ianRobinson@simon Every day there’s some new evidence of Services stomping all over experience. I used to buy Apple because it genuinely delighted. Now it’s just because Android/Windows is even worse. Right now it’s the constant Games Centre dialogue even though I’ve got it toggled off in Settings. Argh.
