Meditation isn't "bad" for anyone unless you have wrong expectations about it. Most common thing I hear is "I can't shut off my thoughts." That's like being six and saying you can't bench press 200 pounds. Yeah, if you try that, you'll hurt yourself.

Meditation is like a bicep curl for the mind; it is the repeated process of losing focus and pulling it back (and no, it doesn't have to be to your breath). That regular exercise will yield results long term.

@mishellbaker thank you for this.

Wow, the opening to BECAUSE INTERNET is soooo good. I wish people have more thought to the possibilities of informal writing, and I'm glad to see more crossover.

    Oh, I guess I'm due for my biweekly cry? Here we go. Let's get it over with, let it happen, move on.

    Parody of "Moves Like Jagger":

    🎵I got them rules of grammar🎵

    1/6

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    While I've got that stuck in my head, I'm thinking back to something I saw online ages ago about comfy jammy grammar. An author was getting criticized about not using proper grammar and spelling online and responded that just because she knows how doesn't mean she wants to put effort into using it all the time. 2/6

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    But what I really like about that pay was that it emphasized a new register that had developed online. Sure, there's a formal register you see in legal/official documents, maybe a slightly less formal register for business emails to people you don't know. A kind of standard register, what you use around family, what you use around friends...

    And way down at the bottom, this new super goofy, informal register was developing online. 3/6

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    Maybe I'm not using "register" right. I only know enough to be dangerous. 4/6

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    But there was/is value to online meme speak, where the grammar points don't matter, and allusions are plentiful but not quite universal. (Thanks for existing, KnowYourMeme.) It made space to communicate widely without the classish/snobbish judgment that usually comes with being allowed to communicate widely. 5/6

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    I'm not going anywhere in particular with this. It was just cool to watch language evolve with the internet. Fin/6

    Guys, you have an entire batch of obsessive, loyal young men trained to work with the SGC. Surely, you can find ways to give them some helpful options.

    Tonight's Stargate commentary is about "Forever in a Day." I dislike this episode. I always skip it. Let's see if I have new opinions 20 years later.

    They are taking heavy losses because of Daniel.

    Husband reminds me I have a lot of politics to try not to think about until Sunday. This makes watching Sha're's death sound better.

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    Ooh Amonet totally knows that Daniel wouldn't shoot her. Still clinging tight to that "host can't have influence" propaganda.

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    Pretty sure this is one of the only ways to make Daniel hateful and irrational. Everyone made good decisions except him.

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    Okay, but Daniel is right. Ballpoint pens are really cool. THEY RELY ON THE VISCOUS PROPERTIES OF THE INK TO FUNCTION. And using the ball keeps the ink inside from drying out. It's just so cool!

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    But also, calling a ballpoint pen simple... I mean, it's not a large machine, but it would take a lot of design work or trial and error for someone to figure it out from scratch and make it reliable. I think. Not my field. Ask me about jet engines.

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    Ugh. Steeaming on Prime stutters where the segments of the DVD cuts transition. And the subtitles are inaccurate. If I were less lazy, I'd have a better viewing experience on DVD.

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    @veronica Ooh that's disconcerting that the upscale didn't go well. Especially odd for the early seasons that were on real film. You'd think they could reimage them. (I guess not when they were digitally edited. Ugh.)
    I'm glad for the regular DVDs, then, so I can blame any fuzziness on old tech, not that I've ever noticed it.

    shannoneichorn,
    @shannoneichorn@wandering.shop avatar

    @veronica oooh yeah fair! Big difference!
