I recently encountered a load-bearing bash fork

Seems like my only option is buying a non-rack-mount NAS. Rack mount would be nice but too expensive, and keeping the data in the VM it is in currently also isn't ideal. Opinions?

ruhrscholz,
@ruhrscholz@kif.rocks avatar

@grrrr_shark I've been looking for ages, but it's either external NAS or a hyverconverged solution, the latter seems way too expensive

ruhrscholz,
@ruhrscholz@kif.rocks avatar

@grrrr_shark Seems like its gonna be some 6 bay prosumer NAS, either the QNAT TS-673A or the Synology DS1621+

ruhrscholz,
@ruhrscholz@kif.rocks avatar

@grrrr_shark Also in that case I have no clue how to move the data there

Oh cool, a backdoor in liblzma/xz which can lead to SSH compromise. Nice.

I want to implement a CPU but I don't know which one yet.

ruhrscholz,
@ruhrscholz@kif.rocks avatar

@DerMolly Already did that one a few years ago (I believe in C# back then). Also it may be underpowered for my next project. Also I don't know how my next project is gonna work anyways. TBH I have no clue what I'm doing.

ruhrscholz,
@ruhrscholz@kif.rocks avatar

@DerMolly It hopefully would start with that. I was looking to experiment with something similar to Uxn/Varvara/Potato, but based on a "real" CPU. And hopefully without writing assembly, meaning I would have to find/build a toolchain

ruhrscholz,
@ruhrscholz@kif.rocks avatar

@DerMolly I've already accepted that I will never write a modern CPU emulator. I was looking for something in the middle, old enough to implement by myself but new enough for some gcc/llvm backends to exist. Maybe something 16bit?

ruhrscholz,

@DerMolly Tbh I haven't even looked into Arm yet, might be a good option. So far I've only researched the Motorola 68k and the WDC 65C816 (as used in the SNES). I'll have to look into Arm more, thanks!

Hello Fedi. Who can tell me what host OS this is by the red logo in the bottom left on the taskbar? Image source is qemu.org

Because I've heard this from uni admins and also from the storage team at my workplace: Are there really that big differences between NFS server implementations?
At work the teams say that AIX NFS is far mor realiable than Linux, at Uni a similar thing was being said about Solaris/OmniOS. Any opinions from more experienced sysadmins than me?

Compiling Perl on AIX on a slow NFS share:

I have compiled Perl 7 times today, 3 of them work work and 4 of them in the lab. 4 OS architectures in total.

Place your bet, will it work in Cygwin with MSVC too?

Idk the ThinkPad crashed, but you can compile it with Zig's built-in cc. Makes me wanna try Zig some more for personal projects

I've learned so much retro tech stuff today just by reading the output of Perl's Configure. They really account for every single thing in a Unix-like system that can go wrong.

Plan of attack: I have a good sound system and am confident I can endure „Griechischer Wein" longer than them.
