Ooooh waking up to happy news is great: Voyager 1 is sending usable data again!

Super cool – the whole chip responsible for data encoding was a goner, so they separated the code sections out into other free memory. (22.5h is hell of an input lag.)

@ueckueck @daniel_bohrer @tabs Ja, ne? Selbst bei Camps (oder GPNs 😉), die mehr im Frühsommer sind, ist das gut – auch ohne Hitze vergisst man das Trinken doch schnell über die ganze Aufregung, und dann ist der Kopfschmerz groß und betrüblich.

Und wenns einem ständig gegen die Hüfte schlackert, denkt man (ich. denke ich.) mehr dran … Das Netz hat dazu noch den Vorteil, dass man Kram dranklipsen kann und es relativ flaschenunabhängig ist, mega gut!

(Die extra Tasche sieht auch fast aus, als ob das ganze Netz reinpasst, das wär natürlich extra clever …)

@ueckueck Oh der Deckel ist ja mega nice! Ich hab nur so Silikonkronkorken, aber dadurch, dass die eben nicht an der Flasche fest sind, hat man sie nie bei der Hand, wenn man sie braucht …

The DSF @django have published a license agreement (let's call it a list of unreasonable demands) for future organisers of DjangoCon Europe.

I can't be bothered to work it out, but how many 5-day blocks do you think fit between January and the middle of April, and don't conflict with any religious days or are within a month of another major conference?

If you are creating a website whose job it is to handle the submission of large, complex forms with lots of fields and big thousand-word essay questions in it, I want you to understand something important.

You have a MORAL DUTY to save every scrap of input that the user types into your site so that it is there when they come back. If they navigate to another page, if they quit their web browser, and especially if they CREATE AN ACCOUNT midway through a form, DO NOT DELETE EVERYTHING THEY TYPED

@glyph ah man fuck. That's my fault, hi. As somebody who's neurodivergent himself: doubly fuck.

I swear we have extensive tests for the intended form progression. this is only the third time in many years that I've heard it not working. (but tbf by the point something makes its way to an issue tracker, it must have happened a hundred times, ugh)

it's not lack of caring or anything, and I swear it'll get fixed. I more properly replied over on github, just wanted to also say sorry-for-the-suck

@chrisjrn @glyph Hmm, you're still running 2.3.2, IIRC? That's a bit over a year old with two bigger releases in the meantime (can I tempt you with the new / much better schedule editor?), but I don't think I've touched that part of the code in the last year.

Relevant changes since then:

  • Draft proposals so speakers can stop/resume
  • Better file upload errors in CfP
  • Warning when closing/leaving CfP page with unsaved changes

Human brains are bad at scale, and also bad at abstractions, and the Internet (particularly the social parts) are just a big bag of fallacies and mistakes waiting to happen.

My favourite example is reach: People tend to speak their minds the same was (be it with opinions, rants, or simply boosts) no matter if they have 10 or 10k followers – because that's not something you really feel.

But you DO have a different responsibility when you reach a ton (metric) of people, and irl, you know it:

There's a huge difference between telling my friends that person X sucks and I wish I didn't have to deal with them, and putting flyers up around the neighbourhood about how that person shouldn't live there.

But online, you don't feel the difference between reaching twenty people and thousands, especially when your account grows slowly.

There are many ways reach can and should be used online, but the most crucial to me is to not direct it (your reach, your followers) at individuals –

Ich reise in letzter Zeit öfter mal so 4-5 Tage, oft mit etwas extra-Gepäck über nur Klamotten und Laptop hinaus, und das geht zwar alles irgendwie mit meinem 30l-Rucksack, aber schön ist anders.

Empfehlungen für was im 40-45l-Umfeld? Marke latte, bin mit Osprey zwar zufrieden, aber nicht verheiratet.

Lieber höher als dicker, weil das Ding ja im Fußraum steht oder in die Gepäckablage passen soll.

Mein Kandidat ist erst mal der Mountaintop 40L (Farbe tbd) sieht nach guter Aufteilung und guter Form aus. Ist günstig und kein fancy Wanderrucksack, aber er muss ja auch nur alle paar Wochen zum Zug und zurück.

Hinweise natürlich trotzdem weiter willkommen!

Oh, von außerhalb des Fediverses wurde der Osprey Transporter empfohlen, der ist vermutlich ein guter Mittelweg in Sache Preis/Leistung – 100€ für was, das zum Reisen gut ist, nicht zu groß, Laptopfach, und meine Ospreys neigen dazu, ewig zu leben. Duffel, aber mit Rucksackriemen:

@littledetritus Jo, aber auch üblicherweise dem konzentrierten Arbeiten von morgens bis abends nicht zuträglich – erstens viel Ablenkung, zweitens bindet man da ne Schlüsselperson. Bibliothek wirds auch tun, wollten nur fragen, falls es da was sympathisches zum Geldeinwerfen gibt. (Das darauf ausgelegt ist, Bombenentschärfung ist morgen.)
