A friend who lives in the sticks sent me these last night around 11pm, I rushed outside just in case but sadly Birmingham city centre is not the spot to observe solar storms.
@mxtthxw if it continues tonight there's an outside possibility I could find somewhere with fewer streetlights within walking distance, and maybe past midnight more lights generally will be switched off, but I'm not that hopeful.
This was the one weekend I'd specifically planned to have early nights too.
Does anyone else here use #Tusky as their main mastodon accessing thing on their phone?
When I'm catching up on the overnight it seems to skip hours at a time which gets to be annoying.
I end up filling in the gaps on the default Mastodon app which I'm less keen on because of the jiggling "new post" marker that is constantly, and redundantly, at the top.
@keefmarshall@n3wjack I've just been scrolling through using Pachli and there's no missed posts so far, also haven't had to click "Load More" even once, which is nice.
If you're a regular listener to #radiofreefedi you may know some of the tracks on bedsit lofi diy already but may not have realised they were by the same person. Or it might be really obvious, I have no idea.
I had to ditch a track at the last minute to fit the upload requirements but splitting it into two "sides" actually suits the overall aesthetic.
I'm plodding through Nietzsche's Also Sprach Zarathustra in one or two page chunks at bedtime and I'm honestly not getting the sense he was a great writer.
The way it reads I can see how people could tie him in with Ayn Rand and Hitler, and I'm wondering if the writers I've read who have good things to say about his work have been filtering it through their own lenses to an extreme degree.
Maybe I should read Twilight of the Idols instead?
@radiophobicsherkpop It depends what you're looking for in Nietzsche. He's been incredibly influential in the history of 20thC European thought in particular, though I'm not saying that reading his work is likely to be particularly edifying to those who aren't really interested in the history of ideas. Many of his most insightful contributions have been so influential that they are now accepted as conventional wisdom,to the point where reading them can feel like "yeah, obviously, so what?".
And these bits are scattered amidst plenty of petty snark, bitter invective, narcissistic megalomania and self-aggrandising clumsy mythopoeia (such as TSZ).
There's also some bits of genuinely funny satire (sometimes requiring familiarity with contemporary writers, or historical texts) and nuanced psychological insight. It's a real mixed bag.
Well I posted about Radio Free Fedi on Reddit last night on the the u/WeAreTheMusicMakers sub reddit and woke up this morning to a seven day ban for breaking the rule about promoting streaming services.
My bad, I guess rules are rules but this does not spark joy.
@radiophobicsherkpop I remember when I read the early hype around the Syntrx II, I wanted one so bad. Obsessed over it for months. But I came to my senses about the exorbitant price and redirected my desire to a Strega. About 1/4 as much. I look at the Syntrx II now with no gear lust. It’s funny how obsessions change.
New tune! This one started off vaguely arabic-sounding so I called it Souk, but as it progressed it started to remind me of the Netflix show Krakow Monsters as well so I added the A to make it a bit eastern european (I play counter-strike).
