Today in "how dangerous are drivers of one specific race and gender in #Portland these days", I had some asshole in a green Trooper lean on the horn for the sin of...stopping for a school bus with the stop sign out and flashing.

On a road where you had to stop. He then continued to flip me off and motioned for me to approach his car.

I turned. Not worth getting shot at. But...this is becoming a real problem and the gutlessness of Polite Whoit Society to address the monsters within it? It's killing people.

There were KIDS CROSSING THE STREET my dude. Unlike you, my man, I don't give a fuck what race, gender, or whatever they are, they're FUCKING CHILDREN. It is your responsibility as an adult in this society not to fucking harm them worse than 40% of their parents of a specific race being Fascist fuckups are harming them already.

I know it's "rude" to point this out. But the monsters in your midst will get you given a long enough timeline.

    @ryanhoulihan Also, so long as unlimited Metrocards exist and one remembers the magic 18 minute window at one station, there's nothing more fun than sitting there with a shit-eating grin to swipe someone in.

    While there are safer cities in this world, there also aren't a lot of places where I'd carry most of my worldly possessions at 4am on transit.

    But in NYC? Would check and make sure the zippers on my backpack are closed. Something's more likely to fall out than get stolen.

    The social contract is alive and well there. Maybe that's why Fascists hate it so much?

    I mean, other than, you know, that it makes the UN look insufficiently diverse.

    @enobacon @RM_Transit The other thing, as someone who rides, drives, and bikes depending, is that bikes make good gap fillers for abled and disabled bike-riding (hi!) folks.

    The gap filler can prevent the need to drive to a park-n-ride. That may be the thing that's gonna work in some suburbs, but not all.

    In the meantime, though...the uninhabitable transit hubs are part of the problem too. Gateway is Hell on a good day, and these are intentional choices Tri-Met has made to keep the system hostile to the people they don't wanna serve...who are gonna ride the system anyways.

    Bike infra can be part of better and more equitable transit. It's not the only thing, but a gestalt requires parts. Bikes should be part of that mix, especially in lower-income areas where cars are almost enforced and forced by society.

    Heads up, people traveling out of as in the airport this winter:

    1. Red line is back!
    2. Rideshare, taxis, and shuttles have a new home about 100-150 feet farther away.
    3. Airport is still under construction so allow about 15 minutes extra. But the end of construction is actually fairly nigh.

    So #Portland voters approved a change to the City charter last go-round.

    And predictably every shitty white supremacist who it's "rude" to call a white supremacist despite the constant white supremacist nonsense ("population control" and flipping their shit about denser housing) is angry about it.

    Now, it's Neighborhood Associations. You know, what we fund with our taxpayer dollars despite not all NAs being open to renters or, in some cases, a neighborhood with no NA. I live in one. The process of replacing a dead NA is Byzantine, and involves lots of people who don't respond to polite emails and calls and that's where it ends.

    The most dreadful white people are losing their shit about something voters already approved.

    @rose Yeah, I am very curious why my local NA is completely gone but the City won't let us replace it because reasons.

    I'm guessing this incident for you was what led to either the Lents or Montavilla "livability associations" and that alone is a fucked up term.

    You know what's livable? Doing something about the fucking tents. You know how we do that? HOUSING PEOPLE.

    I imagine that would fix a lot. Of course these "livability associations" are full of people who scream incoherent anger that they saw a gay person.

    They're Cascadia Movement whites. They talk a great game until they have to deal with their racist/rapist friend. And then you get called "rude" for asking why they're friends with Nazis.

    I wish they'd be honest from the jump. I know better by now.
