Saw this Head-On at the Electromagnetic Pinball Museum in Pawtucket; not in working condition, unfortunately, but nice to get a peek in the back-- hope they can get it working, it's a nice piece of Sega history

New blog post! The Fujitsu FM-8: it looks great, it's got two CPUs, and almost all enthusiasts should probably get the FM-7 instead. Check it out! https://nicole.express/2024/frequency-modulation-not-quite.html

Wanna repaint upstairs, dunno what colour, typing "What colour should I paint my walls" into DDG like a total chump, if that question had an answer then paint shops wouldn't exist, yet there's a million linkspam websites and a thousand youtube videos that'll all waste your time taking ten minutes each to say "IDK LOL"

New blog post, first of 2024: Atari's Pong! Specifically, Pong Sports IV. How did Atari manage to put out color systems before anyone else? Tricks you could only get away with in the 1970s! https://nicole.express/2024/super-duper-rainbow-pong.html

the game "combat" for the atari 2600 utilized a unique form of copy protection where you need to have a physical dongle, or "cartridge", connected to the console in order to play the game. while atari was the not the first to use this method, they definitely helped popularize it

I wonder why all of Analogue's console releases don't support their "openFPGA" platform; that's still only on Pocket right?

Not that it particularly matters since I don't plan to get one, but seems curious...

Space Ava was a javascript game. Space Ava 201 is a TurboGrafx-16 game. Is this the biggest drop in system requirements between the first and second games of a series? :p

I wonder what it would take to make the NES a more accessible platform; for example, NESRGB and many NES FPGA clones have palette options; could that be used to load more high-contrast or colorblind-optimized variants?

I'm looking into composite modding my CoCo 2, but it seems like there's a lot less documentations than on the original model-- do I have to extract the MC1372 from the RF modulator?

nicole,
@nicole@bitbang.social avatar

@48kRAM I'll check out the video-- I mentioned the MC1372 because all of the CoCo 1 mods seem to rely on that chip (which isn't in the RF modulator can in that model)

nicole,
@nicole@bitbang.social avatar

@48kRAM ah I am looking closer into this and I think the PAL model is just easier to mod
