mynamesnotrick,

Howdy! Fellow rick signing up. Super cool of you to do!

mynamesnotrick,

I’m new too but I separated by root and home partitions this last install to try and allow that.

Torrents yes, always VPN. If you’re doing the debrid route, not required but personally I still do.

I am a big fan of mullvad VPN as they take no info from you to create an account. Can pay with crypto. No name, email or anything tied to their service. Used proton, nord and pia in the past.

Washington Post is the only newspaper app I have, mainly because I have a free subscription. I have really enjoyed it thusfar and use it as my usual source for news. It’s “War In Ukraine” was a great section till they really toned down the coverage of it. This is really concerning and this was a great story by sfgate. I am about to be much more skeptical of what I am seeing by them.

NPRs “up first” podcast today had an entire section about this today.

Launcher with specific features

I finally gave up on Nova Launcher after watching the various “calls home” its doing now after the acquisition by analytics company Branch. I held out for probably way too long considering the way things were inevitably going to go. I’ve tried Kvaesitso, KISS, and Neo Launcher so far. There are a couple of features I...

mynamesnotrick,

Not sure about your asks specifically but give smartlauncher a try. Even though it has a PAID version I’ve used the free version for like a decade.

I use mixtral8x7b locally and it’s been great. I am genuinely excited to see ddg offering it and the service in general. Now I can use this service when not on my network.

I am using this: github.com/oobabooga/text-generation-webui … It is running great with my AMD 7900XT. It also ran great with my 5700xt. It sets up itself within a conda virtual environment so it takes all mess out of getting the packages to work correctly. It can use NVIDIA cards too.

Once you get it installed you can then get your models from huggingface.co

I’m on arch, btw. ;)

Edit: I just went and reinstalled it and saw it supports these gpus

Do we think they are going to charge for this once out of beta? Even though they have done great work on making it anonymous, I don’t see anything about them not using the input/output as data to “better” their service. So perhaps it would remain free?

mynamesnotrick,

Just want to say thank you! Can’t believe it’s been a year already! (not this acct). The alien site is just a thing of the past.

mynamesnotrick,

I ran into that when I worked at a university…

mynamesnotrick,

My experience exactly. Thoroughly enjoy it

mynamesnotrick,

Ubuntu, Pop!_os, KDE… Currently on fedora. It’s been solid. I honestly think I like pop the most but I was having weird gpu issues which haven’t showed up over on fedora.

Recently got my Florida MMJ card... how long does it take to get out of the "kid in a candy store" phase?

I have been partoking for 45 years. I’m not used to having A choice, let alone this many choices… I feel like I need to go to all of the places and try all of the things! I’d love to hear from any fellow Floridians about their favorite dispensaries etc…

mynamesnotrick,

Basically once you try enough to know “what works” for you. I took me about 2 years. Then I would just go in and find get that thing and occasionally try a new thing.

mynamesnotrick,

They took their stupid shot on Jan 6th and then they realized they were mostly larpers. Projection to the point of action.

mynamesnotrick,

Haha, I legitimately did quit on my lunch break. I just never went back. I never said anything to anybody. They got the point after a few days.

Now imagine me in the Eastern Line

Sitting on a mine in the Eastern Line

Now it’s turned out nice again

The Army life is fine

Putin can’t kid us a lot

His secret weapon’s genocide

But you ought to see what the polish got

Down on the Eastern Line

Down on the Eastern Line

mynamesnotrick,

As a fellow jenkins miner. I know this red (x) all too well.

I just switched over today just to see what its all about. I’ve been using linux as my only OS for about a year now. Been on ubuntu, pop, fedora, etc… Sysadmin by trade. I am a linux novice I’d say. Not a noob, but not an expert. Still have a lot of issues just figuring out startup/service stuff, etc…

Followed this guide: gist.github.com/…/28264ce68f87f52f2cabb823a503e67… (I wanted my drive encrytped).

I am up and running and basically back to where I was on fedora 40. I was doing this mainly to always be on the latest. Having to learn pacman and yay. I am finding I can get everything running but it’s definitely more involved.

No regrets just it did take a few hours. Not sure if it was worth it tbh at this point. lol

If I need to reinstall arch, I’m going to use endeavorOS. The entire time I was setting it up, I was like “why am I doing this?”. I automate everything I can at my job, why am I doing this the old fashion way…

mynamesnotrick,

I will say a day or two later I am really enjoying it thus far. A bit turned off by the manual install but now I know exactly what is on my system, like you said “curated” and I am really liking yay.

mynamesnotrick,

As I was searching for a few questions I had I ended up on the reddit sub. So unfortunately got exposed already to it… toxic is right! Sheesh. Thank you for the tip about keeping up to date. That was sort of a question I had. I’ll probably just have it on a scheduled task.

mynamesnotrick,

Likewise, thank you.
