Last of the shipping containers. This one is for liquids - I decided to go with a more natural metal look. The black stripe was just to give it some more visual interest. #TerrainPainting #PaintingMinis #PaintingMiniatures

A metal shipping container for liquids. A black stripe runs down the side.

The third container. I really liked how the red turned out; it’s odd how some contrast colors do such a better job over others. #TerrainPainting #PaintingMinis #PaintingMiniatures

A red shipping container. It has a white stripe.

The second of my four containers. I went for a different color for each to give the terrain a bit of variety. #TerrainPainting #PaintingMinis #PaintingMiniatures

A teal shipping container. It has a white imperial eagle.

Did a small blog post about my complete hobby ineptitude this year.

https://realmenweardress.es/2023/12/2023-hobby-update/

I should probably have covered the complete lack of blog posts as well 🤣

@pieceofthepie when in a similar circumstance, I have to ask myself “why didn’t I paint/hobby more”. I find it boils down to a few things:

  1. Too much repetition (same model types/hobby activities)
  2. Too much too fast (burn-out)
  3. Low reward/time investment ratio (too much time on an approach that didn’t turn out that much better)
  4. Fear of bad result (particularly for that expensive model)

Curious if you find it to be similar

This pretty much explains the Fediverse

Share this post and if you can, post a comment because, genuinely I woke up this morning to a staggering number of shares and favourites.

The comments PROVE Mastodon is the place where common decency is being restored. I feel hopeful for the future.

What lovely people you all are.

Comment to be part of this new town square, or as I like to think of it, our tearoom. And add me, I'm going to be brewing lots of tea.

@cloudguy the only part I disagree with is the last part on it not being the town square. That’s the town square I want to live in. I don’t want to live in the pseudo-manufactured hate/rage/emotion machine that drives an endless advertising engine as my town.

WIP Wednesday: Celestian Sacresant Squad

I'll take a look with fresh eyes in the morning but I think I am ready to call this squad done.

I'm cracking up about how low the one head sits. I don't think it's meant to go on that body, but even without glue it fits so snuggly it won't come out. Maybe I'll leave it and enjoy the laugh.

@warhammer40k

Warhammer 40k Adepta Sororitas Celestian Sacresants armed with anointed halberds. Metallic black armor with gold accents and purple robes with red trim. Her head sits so low it is mostly covered by the chin guard of her armor.

Brush on primer: an unspoken love

There’s no question that priming with rattle cans is fast, cheap (as much as anything in this hobby is cheap), and “easy”, while priming with an airbrush is ostensibly way more expensive but avoids all the environmental issues with rattle cans and - given the control one has over the spray- is less likely to result in applying too much paint. And I do use an airbrush for most of my priming.

But I still use and love my brush on primer. 1/
