My drawing for #12daywinterdraw challenge on Instagram! Today’s theme is “Goose”, and I know most cityfolk like myself think of geese as hellspawn, but for some reason I felt particularly inspired by that prompt. I don’t think I’ll be able to do anymore drawings for the challenge this year because of my schedule, but there are still 6 more prompts for you all to be inspired by! #fantasyart #winterart

A close-up of the girl’s face and the goose resting its head on her shoulder, a few leaves and berries from the wreath are visible towards the top of the image.

mattievictoria,

@jake4480 thank you so much for your kind words!!!!

mattievictoria,

@jake4480 oh? Does your wife post online, I’d love to see her work… yours too! It is A LOT of practice… I did not learn how to do this overnight, lol. Thank you though!

mattievictoria,

@jake4480 @druidess oh I follow her! Hello! I don’t really go on TikTok often but I’ll check out her work! And also I absolutely love the Bee Jam piece on your guys’ Redbubble!

Coffee and ice cream shops are really big in the Pacific Northwest (I saw them all over on our road trip to northern Idaho) and these are both things @sisuaika and I love. So I was excited when I saw a place advertising coffee and ice cream, then disappointed because it was A LIE.

Well, it’s technically true… but it’s more emphasis on the ice cream and they’ll serve you a cup of coffee for $5 on the side according to their menu 🫠 but there’s no like, Interesting Drinks smh

I’m sharing another old(ish) drawing for Folktale Week! This is a drawing I did this past summer as part of an art challenge for a Discord Server I’m in, inspired by the local legend of The White Stag of Kelso Valley… I thought he was the perfect choice for today’s “iIllusion” theme!

And shout out to Ken Layne and his book/zine Desert Oracle, where I first learned about this local legend and many others! If you’re interested in Weird Desert Stuff, especially when it comes to the Mojave, then I highly recommend you check out his book!

I finished Gerald’s Game yesterday… the book really resonated with me, as a survivor myself. But one question I have— and I had this same question when I watched the movie a few years ago— is Joubert/Moonlight Man really that integral to the narrative? And please feel free to weigh in on this if you’ve only seen the movie because while it’s been a while since I’ve seen it, I don’t think his role changed that much from the book.

To me, the narrative of Jessie being chained both physically and mentally and the harrowing journey of freeing herself from both of those restraints was enough, I think. I think if you wanted to make MM strictly paranormal, as this visage of Death who takes Jessie’s wedding rings —another “shackle”— freeing her further works.

But like… why do we need some random n*crophiliac dude and a whole description of a police sting? Is this just some kind of 90s Stephen Kingism? Idk. I mean I still give the book a 10/10 bc of how much it resonated with me, but am I at a loss as to why MM had to be there too ¯_(ツ)_/¯

mattievictoria,

@jake4480 @stephenkingjourney I think there’s also similar family guy skit making fun of King too, lol. I had the feeling (and a friend of mine also suggested this) that Jourber/Moonlight man represented Jessie’s father and she could finally confront him, but it’s so random to make him like... Good Value Ed Gein just because Stephen King can Do That if that makes sense

Fascinating piece on horror and psychology -- the evolutionary reasons why we're drawn to horror.

"..captive monkeys that, despite their fear of snakes, kept lifting the lid of a box containing the reptiles to peek inside.. a monkey would cautiously walk up to the bag, slowly open it, and peer down inside before shrieking and racing away. After seeing one monkey do this, another monkey would carefully walk over to the bag to take a peek, then scream and run. Then another would do the same thing, then another.

...Morbid fascination with danger is widespread in the animal kingdom—it's called predator inspection."

mattievictoria,

@jake4480 the recreational fear lab in Denmark has a really interesting Ted Talk on the subject! (And I see they’re mentioned in the article!)

mattievictoria,

@jake4480 It is very fascinating! I’ve been a fan of horror since I was a kid as well, and it’s awesome to know a little about the science behind that. I found the Ted Talk btw, really interesting if you have the time to watch it! https://youtu.be/6St5R2bYMOY?si=_DUzMPiZFc817mdb

I was in a weird mood tonight so I put on the Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know episode they did about corn as a distraction and like… now I have to read more about this Corn Spy who’s in jail because he thought he could steal seeds from Monsanto, who famously sues people over The Wind

mattievictoria,

@jake4480 there is so much Corn Lore here, I’m not even sure what inbred seeds mean at this point, lol

Im excited to share with you all first few pieces of jewelery that I’ve made with the rocks that I tumbled! I collected these pieces of Quartz and Jasper in the Mojave Desert during the Pandemic lockdown of 2020 and 2021. It’s been a ton of fun, and to make room for new pieces I plan on making, I’m running a 50% off sale on everything in my Etsy store. You can also just directly buy things from me too! (I encourage this, Etsy takes too much of a cut and tacks on weird fees.) #handmade #diy #rockhounding

Fall has begun in the northern hemisphere! To celebrate the start of the Spooky Season, I’ve drawn two mischievous cat-síth paying a Halloween homage to the dearly departed Old Tim, the King o’ the Cats. I hope your beginning of the autumn season is a wonderful one ✨🍂

And so, my first excursion into the world of rock tumbling has come to an end. Some rocks I sprayed with a glossy finish, some I left matte— I think both have their own unique beauty to them. It’s been quite the journey! #rockhound #rockhouding #rocktumbling

When the first big lockdown hit in March of 2020, it had been about 8 months since my mom had passed away. I knew I needed something to help me during this INSANE time, so I got into rockhounding and jewelry making. My partner and I got to see some super cool places in the Sierra Pelona Mountains and the Mojave, and I used what we found to give new life to old, broken second-hand jewelry.

Here are some of my favorite creations!

#upcycling #handmade #rockhound #diy

A pair of earrings with wire wrapped milky quartz stones in silver tear drop-shaped frames.
A silver necklace that is of deer antlers with a piece of dark desert jasper in the center. The necklace hooks or on either ends of the deer antlers.
A gold and teal necklace that meets in the center of a golden hoop with a wire wrapped piece of chrysocolla stone dangling from the bottom.
