I had a blast co-delivering the Team Topologies Masterclass at @dddeu. Working with Sarah is sooooo much fun. 🤩
A big thank you for your presence, @ConfluxHQ for the amazing content, and #DDDEU for hosting us!
Y'know how there's a pattern of behavior where someone says something is bad about the tech industry or community or OSS software or something, and then every single nerd within a 50 square mile radius says WELL ACKTUALLY??
I just realized that if, like, even 10% of them just... Sat down and spent some energy fixing the problem instead of insulting someone for experiencing it, we would've solved all those issues by now
@hazelweakly on a tangent, the "I think logically without emotion" thing is also so cringe because it's so demonstrably untrue.
Humans are driven by emotions and that's a good thing: it's where significant innovation comes from. The idea that we can or should ignore emotions is bizarre and cultish.
(I know you likely agree - just articulating it 😁)
Small structured experiments designed the right way force organizations to do something very radical: pre-commit to the evidence that we agree would force a change.
@grimalkina and of course the scientific method is a challenge to coercive control ... so many organisations will never actually adopt an evidence-based approach.
If you have people/teams in your org who prefer to build/host their own stuff in a non-core domain, this form I created back in 2018 might become handy. They can sign it with their not-invented-here sweat and blood.
@antlerboy "According to Coordination Dynamics, such laws specify the flow of coordination states produced by functional synergies of elements (e.g., cells, body parts, brain areas, people…) that are temporarily organized as single, coherent units. These coordinative structures or synergies may be mathematically characterized as informationally coupled self-organizing dynamical systems"
This kind of thing was what I was reaching towards in the Team Topologies book ... but there's more to do...
For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.
From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."
Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.
A temperate rainforest in the Lake District has been declared a national nature reserve in a move that will protect the rare ancient habitat for future generations.
The Borrowdale rainforest is one of the few surviving examples of a “mysterious and untouched” landscape that covers less than 1% of the UK.
The area’s high rainfall creates a humid environment resulting in lush, moss- and lichen-covered woodland with ancient oaks and other historic native species.
"Surprisingly, our results show that women's contributions tend to be accepted more often than men's. However, when a woman's gender is identifiable, they are rejected more often. Our results suggest that although women on GitHub may be more competent overall, bias against them exists nonetheless."
