Gotta love when the company catchup call mentions us being "leaders at AI".

What? How?

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

@mic considering that the bar appears to be buried in a rotting landfill, I imagine anyone can claim AI "leadership"

Misread "artisanal" as "arsenal" and you have no idea how badly I want to shoot day-old bread from a cannon right now.

I really want to see new mascot-focused media that's NOT horror. It really sucks to have the thing I'm most passionate about wrapped up in something uncomfortable more often than not.

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

@NovaSquirrel I don't even like horror, and suddenly all I can think about is using mascots as the absolute best setup because of the conditioning all these games has instilled.

The mascots would just be set-pieces. They wouldn't do anything, they wouldn't chase you, they'd just exist somewhere. But people would be utterly convinced that they're going to.

It'd be a great way to build tension and lean into a psychological horror style of game.

Thinking about it, I've had spiritual characters and those who are fond of certain gods or divine beings, and may have personal mementos or private shrines of sorts, but I've never written someone who was truly, genuinely religious.

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

Which is interesting, since there are quite a few gods on Eiroth, from small regional divinities to more major ones that can be found in the rare temple. Sure, most every practitioner has a shrine or similar, and religion is a very personal thing amongst lund (there's no truly organized system thereof, despite the priesthood in a few places), but for having such a history of it (and a largely euhemerist pantheon, no less), it seems odd not to have any major characters with a background in faith.

Tablets are so weird because you really can't make meaningful use of them without a keyboard, at which point it's just a really awkward laptop.

Today I'm reminded of why letting tech bros decide things is never a good idea.

Decided to work half days this week, and honestly I'd get a lot more done every week if I could just sit and work intensely for 4 hours instead of slogging through 8.

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

@mic honestly same.

A past job had me working from home for about a year and a half when they shuttered our satellite office. I'd spend the first 3 or so hours doing my own thing, then after lunch, focus on NOTHING but getting the day's stuff done.

I genuinely feel I got more progress on a solo-dev job that way than I have in any other 8-hour role.

"We have deadlines"
"Cool I'll get to work"
"Oh BTW, half your work day will be senseless meetings"

@mic I see you, too, have come to experience the wonders of "agile" development.

Which really should have been called "glacial."

Seen some people ask "why did I had to download so many files for just 3 lines of patch notes?".

Answer: they replaced the entirety of Amnytas with updated data (even the 2D map art for it)

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

@that_shaman wish they'd say that.

I swear, a huge amount of work goes completely unknown (and unappreciated) because it never even gets mentioned in the patch notes. Poor team needs love (and a technical writer or two).

@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

Kind of anxious about the upcoming #guildwars2 patch on the 26th, since they've not released any information about it and I'd really not like to see my characters have their builds ruined again, when I've been playing those same setups for 6+ years (or since 2014, in the case of one they outright removed. Again).

I just want to enjoy the game, not be worried that my characters will get progressively worse for seemingly no reason other than "but raiding."

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

@pixel hey, thank you for the insight and context! I really appreciate it.

It's actually reassuring to know where things might be focused, and I hope the balance team isn't as heavy handed as they've been in the past (I've never really played scourge or soul beast, so I don't know much about their current state).

Hopefully tweaks to specter won't mean nerfing / gutting / reworking core thief traits for a fourth time, though. That's what I'm always afraid of.

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

@pixel true, and most of the changes to the Shadow Arts traitline did improve its versatility overall, though I've no idea what they were thinking with reducing Endurance support in Acrobatics or granting another source of Quickness to Deadeye.

I do hope for the same, however; after End of Dragons, healing and survivability feels like it fell off hard for most everyone. Still astonished that Invigorating Precision wasn't reworked in competitive modes, yet is now worse than 2014 in PvE.

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

@pixel It's half the reason I've stopped playing Daredevil (my beloved) simply because where it once had a vague sense of synergy with Acrobatics, now there is none.

Being thoroughly disillusioned with Star Trek Voyager has me wanting to go back and rewatch Next Generation and Deep Space 9.

You know, the good ones.

(Can't talk to the original series as I've only seen one of two time shenanigans crossover episodes).

itspomf,
@itspomf@chitter.xyz avatar

@wpgne if anything, the poor storytelling which used the characters as plot devices rather than developing them and their relationships, and the bizarre habit of simply throwing out established facets of characters (or even events within the continuity) for the sake of furthering the current arc, which itself may or may not honor says continuity (or later be honored).

Janeway, like most of the core cast, began as a fascinating and complex character only to have most all of that stripped away.
