mcv, to linux Dutch

I need to pick a Linux distro!

I'm in the process of buying a new PC, and I decided it's going to be Linux this time. But which Linux? How do I choose? So much has happened since I last installed Linux (Ubuntu 6 or 8 or something), new technologies like Wayland replacing X11, new desktop environments, more gaming support obviously.

So how do I start picking my way through this? I've never been a big fan of Gnome and KDE, and I understand there's a lot more options than those two now, but how can I get a good grasp of the differences?

I want something that's fast and responsive, easy to use, easy to change and configure, a clean interface that I can easily make my own. I'm hearing some good stuff about Pop! OS, but also some limitations. Is there a distribution that does everything?

Goign to try NixOS in a virtual machine (Boxes) and see how it runs.

Might be a decent way to not break my actual computer
