Lone Survivor: It always seems rather sad to come across an orphaned tenement which has been left standing when all its neighbours have been demolished. This one is on Keppochhill Road in Glasgow.

@thisismyglasgow Oh no. Tenements are herd animals; they don't do well when separated. The poor creature. I hope another herd adopts it.

@bookstodon Update: Found it! It's called 'Is Gender Necessary: Redux', published in a book of essays called 'Dancing at the Edge of the World' by Grove Press in 1989.

Actually, LeGuin doesn't say she should have used 'she/her' pronouns for the Gethenians. She says she should not have accepted that he/him/his could be gender-neutral, and should have used they/them.

A rather beautiful sculpture at the Melbourne Street entrance to the former Glasgow Meat Market in the east end of the city. This market opened in the early 1800s, but the structures around this entrance were designed by A.B. McDonald in the 1910s. The market finally closed in the 1980s.

@thisismyglasgow Too late I've decided on my interpretation and I'm sticking with it.

By the way, mastodon, Trip Galey's book 'A Market of Dreams and Destiny', is terrific! Have you ever read a book involving fairy bargains and goblin market and thought, 'yes, please, more of that please'? If so, this book is absolutely what you've been waiting for. Fairy bargains piled high and deep, plus labour unions, rhyming bells (lovely magical touch there) and a matchmaking talking cat.

@Jyoti @smellsofbikes The best bit about this skit is that most of it is entirely accurate for traditional generative linguistics of the era.

Hello, friends! Remember blogs? I has one. I even occasionally write in it. Here are my thoughts on Emma Southon's new book, 'A History of the Roman Empire in 21 Women'.

Apparently Augustus's daughterJulia absolutely loved to get her some, and Tacitus and Suetonius are absolute pricks.

(Seriously, if you're sleepign on Emma Southon, you've got to fix that. Hers is the only voice I want telling me history anymore.)

So apparently, some inexpensive retailers in the US---HomeGoods, maybe?---have started selling #FountainPen friendly notebooks like Leuchtturm, and r/fountainpens is going nuts. It's really, really cute. I love it when niche hobby groups get worked up about a good thing for their niche hobby.

James Thomson's wonderfully elaborate Liverpool and London and Global Insurance building on the corner of Saint Vincent Street and Hope Street in Glasgow City Centre. It was built in 1899 in an early German Renaissance style.

Fuck yeah, this is my home town! Go go go, good job kids! (ht to @waxy for original post).

When I was in high school, a theatre student at the local university wanted to put on a production of Corpus Christi, in which Jesus was gay, and there were bomb threats and it went to court (see second link). I think it did eventually get staged.
