President Biden continues to enable genocide in Gaza, exactly as Trump would do if reelected. Nearly 30,000 Palestinians have been killed with American money and support.

Both of these are true.

For me, Biden's choice to continue supporting Israel's attacks on Gaza is a huge problem... for the Palestinians first and foremost, but as a smaller matter, in my willingness to support him. When both of our mainstream parties are in complete support of our government funding Israel's treatment of the Palestinians, that's a major issue for me.

@tokensane But the question could also be -- how do you change the system? Voting for a 3rd-party candidate, if it were organized enough, could put more pressure on the candidate who wins the election to adopt some of the 3rd-party candidate's positions.

I'm not saying it will in this particular election, or that it's the best choice in this particular election, just that the choice isn't always just: "Which one do you prefer the least?"

@serge I wasn't proposing that any stolen land be given back at this point. There would be justice in that -- Native Peoples' land given back in the US and Canada, Palestinians' land given back in Palestine, Jewish people's land given back in the Middle East, Europe, and elsewhere. But I don't see how it would be feasible. What I am pushing for is Israel being reconstituted as a multiethnic democracy where all residents have rights. What about you?

@serge I also believe that people who wish harm on the Jews should say so up front and that antisemites shouldn't present their hatred of you as social justice.

If you are implying that that is what is happening here, I don't believe that it is, although we all have limited insight into our own biases. I believe I would have the same reaction to any nation acting as Israel is. People shouldn't be held to different standards because of their identity, as you say -- higher or lower.

We should have empathy for the 1,200 Israelis killed on October 7th. We should have empathy for the more than 17,000 Palestinians killed since then. And our actions should be informed by our empathy. But our actions should be determined by our analysis of power. The difference in death counts is just one data point, but it is a key one in determining who has power in that situation, who lacks power, and therefore who needs us to lend them ours. #Israel #Palestine #Gaza #Empathy #Power

Humans are causing it but renewables aren't technologically feasible to substitute for fossil fuels.
Renewables are technologically feasible but they'll cost too much for society.
They won't cost too much for society but they will cause the implosion of fossil fuel companies.

@wackyIdeas @MHowell I hope your power is back on and that you are recovering. I'm sure it was useful to have a gas stove in that case, but I don't think that's a reason for us to continue installing new gas stoves. Continuing to increase the number of gas stoves and other appliances will exacerbate climate change, which will increase the severity of hurricanes.

Creating clean energy jobs, funding electric appliances in people's homes, and on and on. We're going to explore transitioning to an induction stove.

The IL Supreme Court recently approved the elimination of cash bail in Illinois. A lot of commenters say we should look at California and New York to see the results of bail reform, which they claim is out-of-control crime. This is not true. There is no evidence that crime has increased in either CA or NY out of proportion with other states that have not enacted bail reform. The elimination of cash bail is a policy we should be celebrating as a victory for fairness. #endcashbail #bailreform
