Sad reality of ordering from a small place. You are lucky if the order ships promptly. Never mind if they give you a warning at order time, it might take a few weeks anyway. Mainly an issue if they’re the maker.

@masp @pluralistic I just reread Tsalmoth in preparation. It was set much earlier in the timeline, so I suspect that was not as important as it could have been.

The main planting of tomatoes and peppers is in. Tomorrow I will put in 14 basil plants - one next to each pepper or tomato.

I do not like these beds. The corten steel gets very hot, even today when it only got up to 80F or so it was painful to touch :(

🖨️ I own this printer or at least a nearly identical model. I bought mine early in the pandemic while you could still order things, knowing that with three of us home, we'd need to be able to print from it.

~5 years later, it still JUST WORKS, and I think I'm on my first toner replacement.

@webology we have the color version. We wore one out over almost 10 years and many reams of paper. Bought the newer version. On our second toner refill. It just keeps going. Just works.

Tomatoes all pricked out. I was ruthless and kept only the 4 best of each variety. That’s still at least twice what I need, but sometimes you lose seedlings.

Peppers and basil will wait for another day. I don’t have my old potting bench set up yet, so there is a lot of bending over.

Do I really want to fake out https://fpc.ink to let me enter a currently inked pen where I mixed two inks right there inside the body of the eyedropper pen? I felt slightly dirty as I did it to begin with...

FTR the combination was Diamine Astral and Diamine Onyx Black. Aiming for a solid black with a bit less shimmer than the Astral.

It's a shame 1Password is so broken these days. It used to be really great, but everything just seems to be degrading. At this point it usually can't find a login to autofill any more, and just waiting for the lookup is quite slow.

The weirdest thing started happening today. An old favorite #FountainPen ink (Noodler's Kiowa Pecan) is just not drying. I've had the bottle at least 10 years - this isn't a new batch of ink or anything, and the pen has been inked for a month. But now I'm noticing it just not dry. Things I wrote 4 hours ago are still glossy and wet on a composition notebook. It's even an EF nib. Same problem on an ExaCompta notecard.

The #Kaweco Ebonit #FountainPen looks sooo nice, but it’s very hard to justify the asking price. I know ebonite is a special material, but you can get other larger ebonite pens for much less. 😕

    @penfount I made a spreadsheet of pen characteristics I wanted to try. Filling systems. Materials. Nib materials. Nib sizes. Then I could look for something to tick of boxes (ebonite section, titanium nib, etc)

    Hey coffee fedi, my aeropress has died again (plunger shrank, is weeping gross oil 🙃) and I kinda don’t want to keep making coffee in plastic, even when I’m traveling.

    Does anyone have better, ideally non-plastic travel press recs from personal experience? Search results are hard to trust and I can find little french presses but they are so goopy and messy. (And I love you, pour over people, but I cannot deal with all that on the road.)

    @kissane It isn't sold as a travel item, but I have a double-walled stainless French press that was great right up until I switched to doing everything with a clever dripper (which uses plastic or I'd be reccing it). No glass to worry about breaking, and double-walled so it insulates and will keep the coffee warm while you drink it. Mine isn't this exact model, but this one looks very very similar and is still available.

    @tenderlove but is higher or lower better? I'm used to mainly digging into the long form messages when trying to figure out some gnarly code or scrambling to debug a live issue. It might be an indicator that the author is being too clever.

    Turns out that our light fixture is fine, I just replaced the bulb that stopped working (with no signs of broken parts when shaking it) with another bulb that wasn’t working (also with no signs of broken parts when shaking it).

    @thomasfuchs I ended up getting a 3 bulb fixture and fitting it with 3x 100watt equivalent bulbs from https://www.waveformlighting.com. I have not tried them with a dimmer, but otherwise they have been amazing. I’m a fountain pen and photography geek and they do a great job on the colors.
