@dharmadischarge@disabled.social

I am from the USA.

I am obsessed with postmodern literature and Japanese pop culture from the 60s up to the late 90s.

I make stuff: Music, art, and poetry.

I have been accused of being a fossil from the 90s.

My profile pic selfie: a picture in high contrast with color adjustment so it looks nightmarish and vaguely psychedelic.

Some years back, I decided I was going to learn to draw. I had never been able to draw, so I started with just copying existing images. I drew them the same way I do archaeological field drawings: using a grid and drawing where the thing I want to draw intersects with the grid. (cont.)

Recorded this six months ago when I started recording the last three albums.

I can't remember if I posted it anywhere...before now... but it feels unfinished.

put some autopitch on it as an experiment.

turned out ok I think.

CW includes lyrics about nukes and some cussing.

    @flockofnazguls I love that band.

Earth beat off their second album (i think) is one if the most underappreciated song of all time.

Thinking about it all there music is some of the most underrated stuff of all time.

#BandcampFriday This EP is only five songs long. but is one of my favorite collections of songs.

    It's called Heaven's basement.

The first song is my favorite a kind of Ozzy Osbourne meets the Melvins pastiche with lyrics directly inspired by the film Romeo + Juliet

The second track is called Still Dancing Under That Blue Sky and is lyrically one of my favorite songs I've written a reframing of the story of Adam and Eve and it is more straight-up doom metal.

Rewrote a #Blog post from years ago.

    It is about #TimRogers

The first draft was written right after my diagnosis and I was still pretty psychotic.

So I rewrote a big chunk of it.

It is extremely short right around eight hundred words.

the piece it titled - What if Oedipus was my dad? (a reframing of the past).

3 people in my bookclub really enjoy reading erotica. To each their own, it’s simply not my thing. My question, & I don’t want to come across as condescending, are there any books of this genre that are well-written? I get there will be a lot of gratuitous stuff, but is that all there is to these books? Years ago, another bookclub I was in read the 1st book in the Sleeping Beauty series by Anne Rice (she wrote these under a different name) & I couldn’t finish it, I thought it was ridiculous.

    Any insight?

@Likewise @bookstodon most of Thomas pynchon major works I feel meet the definition of well written erotica...though some of the fetishes are so obscure I don't understand them. Or they scare me.

The poem by Jim dodge called reason to live is the most sensual thing I have read.

Neil gaiman has scenes that are erotica.

Most books have some erotica... maybe the if its not gratuitous they market it as another genre?

Oh and Tom Robbins books especially even cowgirls get the blues

If an album normally included on the greatest LP's of all time type lists can be underrated it is this one.

Not as good as exile (but what is?)

Can't you hear me knocking one hell of a groove and might be their best song.

The country ballads wild horses, sister morphine and dead flowers are strangely emotive and ironic all at once.

The song I got the blues I haven't seen mentioned as a standout stones track and damn if that ain't a mistake.

The Crow is a masterpiece though I have a hard time reading it all the way through.

I love reading the special edition with the added scenes.

Eric and Shelly are the alternative rock, Romeo and Juliet. The poems in the book with the more intimate sweet moments are what I love about it.

    The tragedy is real.

I usually cry when I read the whole book.

Truths are everywhere for the learning, not just social media. People who tell you that your filters are "head in the sand" speak from fear: if they lose their power to shotgun their opinions to strangers, they will have to find another, more difficult way to feel involved with what matters in the world.

The choice to curate social media comes with an obligation to seek the hard truths through less ephemeral, higher-quality channels. It is more work, but it can be done on your terms.

As a gift for me this birthday weekend:

Tell me in as many words as you can about something you wholeheartedly, unreservedly love and/or enjoy. Paint me a picture. Leave out any apologies, buts, or "in spite of"s. Just love the thing out loud, and let me love it with you.

@mishellbaker I love people because they make neat posts like yours.

I love how they are more often than not more selfless than we have any reason to be.

I love how we can feel hope when there is very little of it elsewhere.

And most of all i love how no matter how dark it is there is a flicker of potential that we can accomplish more than anything else in the universe by simple act of having the ability to choose to do it.

People make music and I love the harmony and dissonance.

    dharmadischarge,
    @dharmadischarge@disabled.social avatar

@mishellbaker it is pretty neat being a person.

Not to sound weird but I have often as of late find myself crying at the strange miracle of existence.

And the tiny miracles that come with it.

    Writing a poem.

    Watching a film.

    A stranger smiling at me.

Even the rude guy today when I went to the store. Im happy he exists. Its so strange that any of it happened.

It's strange I can feel that sentiment and Express it.

I am trying harder and harder to not take it for granted.

#GreatAlbums1980s - #OrchestralManoeuvresInTheDark – Architecture & Morality (1981). OMD stuck closer to forbears like Kraftwerk and Neu! than most of their synth-pop peers, giving their work an austere facade (architecture) in tension with a natural pop instinct (morality). A mellotron, choral synths, and bursts of guitar darken the mood on "The New Stone Age" and almost ambient "Sealand," while the "She's Leaving," "Souvenir" and two "Joan[s] of Arc" feel all too human.
