Local construction workers are using a machine called Ditch Witch for their extraction work and I can’t but help applaud the naming 😅 (not my photo)

Learning from @gernotstarke about Quality using the best analogy: coffee! ☕

coderbyheart,
@coderbyheart@chaos.social avatar

ISO 25000 doesn't do much to help you get to good quality, even after reading 1.000 pages of PDFs.

Now learning from @kenny_baas about the role of men in debugging patriarchy in IT.

coderbyheart,

"Patriarchy influences who and what can be discussed,
thereby affecting the knowledge that is incorporated into our software design."

A good reminder that that golden rule of lambda is:
"Use Lambda to transform data, NOT transport data"

coderbyheart,
@coderbyheart@chaos.social avatar

@janl The difference is that while you can use Lambda (custom executed code you write) to glue together services (e.g. but an event in a queue), its better (cheaper, more flexible, easier to update) to use platform features to do that. So your event routing becomes a configuration.

coderbyheart,
@coderbyheart@chaos.social avatar

@janl Here is a good example: you can configure API Gateway to do request validation using JSON Schema, and only if the request passes the validation you pay for the lambda execution. You can do input validation in lambda, but this will cost you for every request.

Learning from @jessicab about how to stabilize eccentric systems.

coderbyheart,
@coderbyheart@chaos.social avatar

Of course, legacy systems are a product of the people that created them. So talking to them is maybe the most important way to understand them.

We visited the most stunning town we've seen so far on Mallorca: Cala Figuera. We arrived early and had a quiet time walking around the harbour that is built around the rocky cliffs of the town. The water is crystal clear and shallow which makes the anchored boats seem like they are floating on air.

Will try to get one of those. I have Vivobarefoots right now but was always a big fan of Merrell.

@kevinteljeur Yeah, that's really annoying. I like Vivos for that because their soles last quite long.

I have a whole lot of respect for Taylor Swift: The person, her undeniably genius sense of business, her perfectionism on stage. All that is impressive af.

I’ve been trying her music for years, though, and I can’t help the feeling that it’s incredibly average. C major cadence, hardly an original hook line or memorable melody. All very easily consumable and smiley-face fun, of course. Pretty much what I’d expect from an AI, tbh.

Musicians, composers: Am I missing something? Honest question.

coderbyheart,
@coderbyheart@chaos.social avatar

@weltraumpirat I've listened to some of her stuff as well, and I also wouldn't call it uniquely brilliant (I've played drums for 20 years).
But I do also listen to a lot of Music that others would call Noise but it gives me Goosebumps.
