Okay, I like #Calckey enough - but not enough to make this my primary Fediverse microblogging platform.

I've already established that with my #Mastodon account & while the features are neat (some of which are better than Masto), I like the little community I have there & these features are not enough to make me jump here permanently.

But, that's just my opinion. I'll probably drop random stuff here periodically, but if you like what little content I have here & aren't already - my main account is @mdmrn

There is one major reason I still use Mastodon, and won`t probably change anytime soon, being able to use Ivory, which is Mastodon's version of Tweetbot. Calckey still doesn't fully support it.

Yes, some features are cool in Calckey and it probably have a better web UI than Mastodon, which is workable, but not visually appearing as Mastodon instances just look the same. Not too many instances slap a custom style and change the fonts. The Calckey UI looks simular to Twitter, which is why some who just use the web UI normally might prefer it over Mastodon's web UI.

That said, the point of creating Calckey is to give users a choice and nudge people off the birdsite (and not go to Barcelona when it happens, not a big fan of Meta especially after some political stuff they did). If I manage to get a sizable number of users off Twitter and onto our Mastodon or Calckey server, it's a win.

At the end of the day, Mastodon will eventually gain quoting, better search, and groups, but it's always nice to see how other fediverse apps come along and the competition it will give to Mastodon.

I reported this last week where old deleted tweets from November 2022 are restored. Now, it seems to be happening to more users.

@ivan18rod I heard this is probably because Twitter is bring up nodes that are not wiped online again, thus causing old deleted tweets to reappear. Then again, it can just be a bug.given the current state of Twitter.

Update: The character limit of a post is now 3000 on our Mastodon instance to match the limit set on the Calckey instance.

#Imgur apparently blocked all my VPNs. Please do not use Imgur, especially since they have been cracking down on VPN usage and no, I’m not going to disable it just to view images.

There are other alternatives, especially given their misguided choices they made recently with NSFW content and deleting images not associated to an account after a certain period of time.

@ivan18rod Tor is a different story as that is routed through several nodes. The VPN servers I set up are hosted on virtual private servers, and I rarely get suspicious activity capcha. I notice that captcha appears even when I don’t use VPN, but a 5G connection.

It seems that someone's GPD Win 4 keyboard melted, doesn't give me confidence in the long term. Or this can just be a connected standby issue.

Last year, in order to improve engagement on my blog, one of the ways is to well, improve my writing quality. There is no secret that I use Grammarly Pro to proofread my posts.

While not perfect as there are some questionable suggestions, it cuts the time in proofreading my posts before publishing. Worth the subscription cost, I suspose.

@ivan18rod I think they added AI capiabilities recently, but it started in 2010, so it probably didn’t use AI when it began.

It seems my blog server is having issues primarily networking. I’m mulling over moving the server to another provider, given that I’m kind of running out of space on the server, but we’ll see.

The moment everyone is waiting for, our Japanese Media Fan and Creator #calckey server, Sakurajima Social at https://sakurajima.social is now open for open registration. We created this offshoot as some in the Anime Blogging community might find Mastodon UI a bit too hard.

Since Misskey really resembles Twitter and Calckey, which forks Misskey adds a bunch of improvements and features like:

  • 3000 Character Limit
  • Boosting options (Followers/Unlisted/Local)
  • Features Birdsite users expect (Quote Posts/Search/etc)
  • Antennas, which not only you can follow hashtags, but also certain terms and users
  • Can connect with Mastodon and other Activitypub applications
  • Import posts from Mastodon/Akkoma/Misskey/Calckey

If you are on Mastodon Social or Online, I suggest giving our instance a try if you are an Anime/Japanese media fan or create content around it. There are some small and medium instances that silenced or blocked those instances due to moderation/spam issues.

This is why I avoid artificial sweetners. Better to just reduce sugar usage if possible.
