This 99% invisible episode is fascinating. It starts with some background on Zoroastrianism death rites, goes to the decline of vultures in India, and then the decline of Zoroastrian Parsi communities.

Dreamhost removed support for Passenger a week ago, and I’ve been scrambling to get my site up and running again ever since.

I think I finally have it. I’m relieved, but tentatively because of a back-of-the-mind fear that something might still be broken.

I can’t go a day without hearing about Boeing’s woes on the news. @pluralistic provides some interesting context with his take on the blocked Spirit Airlines/Jetblue merger.

“I get up and I read. I carry a book with me on the train heading into the office. I read before bed. I’m devouring books again. It feels good.”

This is a beautifully written piece of optimism that avoids becoming saccharine. I can relate to books taking a back seat in life; only in the past few years have I found time for books again. Embracing fiction has been a big part of that.

Spotted at Publix. I last saw this “cereal” 15+ years ago in New Zealand. It is like eating soggy cardboard, but we ate it almost daily.

Pro tip: brown sugar helps.

“Why does walking feel so intuitive when we’re in a city built before cars, yet as soon as we return home, walking feels like an unpleasant chore that immediately drives us into a car?

[T]here’s a bigger factor here: We don’t design the pedestrian experience for dignity.”

This article does a good job articulating why, even when “accommodated,” walking can feel like such a hassle.

This sounds tasty and I know several people that would be interested in a #Feta dip, but what in the world is the “1 cup feta mixture” listed in the ingredients alongside “8 ounces goat’s milk feta, preferably in brine”? Is it the recipe yield?

“Search by zip code to find plants that host the highest numbers of butterflies and moths to feed birds and other wildlife where you live.”

An interesting resource for finding #NativePlants in your area that host large numbers of butterflies and moths. I think the idea is that these insects form the foundation for the native food web, supporting a much larger and more diverse group of wildlife.
