I've found an excellent podcast series about how online companies use your data. The second episode of the new season is all about how social media giants gather data to keep you engaged, enraged and staying in their apps looking at ads.
It's presented in a pleasantly approachable way. The fediverse is mentioned (Flipboard), along with a new platform I haven't heard of, Small Town and the idea of the Pluriverse.
One of the exercises they do in the episode is pull down their data from Instagram (thanks GDPR!). I did the same thing last year and documented my findings - a real eye opener, and one of the reasons I'm now committed to the fediverse.
Contributing some of my time to help get a WordPress site back into shape for a small non-profit. I haven't used packaged hosting services much so was surprised to see a collection of 1-click social network installation options listed in Softaculous.
Jcow? HumHub? UNA? And what about "Open Source Social Network"? It exists, and that's actually the name. 😂
How do we get some PHP based fediverse options in there (in addition to Hubzilla)?
Hmm I am just now seeing this thanks to @andypiper . This daily summary service was a bit pricey for me when I first heard of it, but recently reduced the cost per month to $1.99. Enticing!
I have been reading and creating so many business requirements documents lately, all my sentences are now in the form of "As a _____, I should be able to _____"
As a husband, I should be able to show interest when my spouse talks about sports.
As a dog owner, I should be able to provide 10 scritches per hour to Maddie.
As a spice intolerant but spice loving white man, I should be able to eat my favorite Tom Kha without crying after every spoonful. (but it's so goooood)
It’s been awhile since my homelab had issues so I forgot the icons I added to my stream deck when things go awry. Ducktor Doom from Spider-Ham always spells trouble!
I am writing a data dictionary that covers large amounts of objects and fields and have found any way imaginable to do as little writing as possible.
SQL queries to pull the schema and some related metadata, Python to do some additional analysis and cleanup. 11ty to generate the base documentation from those files.
But now I'm at a point where I need to audit them all and add my personal knowledge about each area. It's slow going, but necessary.
Hey @pipilo tell me about the feature to expand the replies on a post. On my very small instance (a GoToSocial instance) I notice after clicking the show replies button, it seems to pull in missing replies onto the server itself, not just in app? Or am I just seeing things. Cool either way!
