Ok so I took a few days off BG3 (IRL issues including a broken pre-molar, 0-10, do not recommend). Picked it back up this eve. Cleared some gnolls, then hyenas/gnolls. Wandered about a bit, found a couple other quests. Picked up Karlach. Trashed the "paladins" despite the game yelling at me about "these are tough enemies, it's ok to run away". Yo, I played your grandfather and your father 20 yrs ago, game. I think I know what I'm doing. Pic related.

On the road to Bakersfield (I think? Did a couple more jobs and it's been a couple hours so I'm a bit fuzzy). Figured I should post a shot with Mangohud stats cause that's easier than trying to put all that in a post (and wasn't fun to alt text but I did.) So yeah, even being choked by the CPU, this system is handling ATS in 2K with ease. Looking forward to getting the next upgrades: Ryzen 5 7600X/AM5 Mobo, with some DDR5 ram and a 2tb M.2 SSD.

Slowly dipping my toes into BG3, been a while since I played a game this dense. Just level 3, about to get to Karlach.Also picking up speed in American Truck Sim(huehue). Doing Quick Jobs, building up cash to buy my own truck, cause fuck the "loans" the "Bank" offers. I'm real impressed with the DeepCool Gammaxx GT CPU cooler I bought. BG3 keeps this i5-6400 pegged at 90-99% use and it never breaks 50°c. Glad it's AM5 compatible, gonna upgrade with a 7600X soon. #PC #Gaming #ShareYourGames

I have now played both BG3 and American Truck Sim (I like a good sim for podcasts, what's better than cross country truckin?) for about a half hour of gameplay (BG3 character creation ate an hour lol). Huzzah, Mangohud worked for both of them. So I can say that with this setup (i5-6400, RX 6800 16gb, 32gb ram at 3066mhz, PNY SATA 500gb SSD) BG3 ran at 60fps at Ultra in 2K, AT Sim at 120fps at Ultra in 2K. Better than I expected. CPU is sweating a bit tho lol.

@StampedingLonghorn I just played the intro so there wasn't a TON of assets at play yet, I'm guessing in "real world" driving I'm gonna see some frame slips, prob down to 90-100 on avg and dips to 60s? Depends on how much the CPU chokes out the GPU, cause I def saw "Throttling" on the HUD more than a little bit, heh. But still, that's at 2K. On this 32" 4K 144+hz capable display, both games look really good.

@StampedingLonghorn So I did my first "real world" ATS run. I pretty much called it perfectly. I maintained a steady fps in the 90s and when it got a bit crowded in a town, I got dips into the 60s. I swap in an AMD 5800X/AM4 mobo (looking at an MSI one, I'm liking the BIOS on this Mobo I'm running now) and I will have this game pegged at my display's 120hz refresh rate 🤣

Last night, I bought Baldur's Gate 3. The last few days of testing convinced me this "new" PC is definitely capable of running it.

So imagine my frustration when, after the download finished, the game failed to launch.Troubleshot for 3 hours, no progress.

Got up this morning, ready for more troubleshooting. I did my morning routine of updating the system. Noted a Mesa update. Decided to reboot. For fun, loaded Steam and launched BG3.. and it works. Bye.

Ok. I got 2 LiveUSBs set up. One is straight Arch, the other is the Garuda I'm currently running. I think I'm going to give straight Arch a try first. If I end up struggling with it more than I currently am anticipating, I'll wipe that for Garuda.

Much as I hate Windows, I am glad I got the partner a Vivobook a year ago. 1, it got her off my PC 😜 2, if I blow up my setup somehow at least there's another PC around I can use to troubleshoot, instead of using my phone.

Done some exploring and I think I hit on a main issue: this OS uses Manjaro's HW detection database (mhwd-db), and that pkg is a dependency for both Nvidia and AMD. Normally no big deal but.. I've had proprietary Nvidia on this OS. I feel like not being able to toss those drivers completely is causing issues. In order to "fix" it, I can either spend hours/days searching/asking on forums etc for a niche solution.. or I can just fresh install and be back online in under an hour. #Linux #Tech #PC

Well shit. I've been banging my head against the wall with this GPU switch from Nvidia to AMD. System tells me the most current Mesa is installed but there's no way it's working properly based on the performance I'm seeing. Tried reinstalling all packages which failed a bunch of times due to "pgp sigs" but finally succeeded and after a reboot nothing has changed. I guess I could try the "Pro" drivers.. I am thinking a fresh install is looking more likely tho. #Linux #Garuda #PC #Tech

The monitor cable adapters and the GPU brace showed up yesterday instead of Monday so I'm going to be installing the new RX6800 sometime today. Looking forward to a much improved Linux experience with Radeon compared to the last time I tried it (2007). Also curious just how bad the 1050TI will end up looking in comparison, lol. Ran some benchmarks yesterday and noted the 1050 was the bottleneck with this i5-6400. This CPU about to get rekt. #PC #Tech #AMD #Gaming

@StampedingLonghorn Well, so far.. it's been pretty much painless. I haven't done anything but swap in the new card and boot, mind you. However, card responded right away, I got Grub, then the OS bitched about NvidiaGPU missing, figured it out and gave me the login splash. OS sees the card properly. Haven't tried anything yet but playing a few 4k vids, which the 1050TI couldn't do, and they played flawlessly. Gonna check some games and report back later.

@StampedingLonghorn Aight it seems I spoke too soon, as the pain has kicked in. Launched LotRO, which after I adjusted settings ran 45fps in 4K on Very High, so there's that.. However Steam is refusing to launch, as is WoW. So there's some kinks I need to iron out, apparently.

@StampedingLonghorn So far I've banished Nvidia from the system. ..except nvidia-utils. lspci -k showed the GPU and that it was using the amdgpu driver. I have the most current stable mesa installed. However.. don't think the drivers are correct/might need the proprietary ones? Steam still won't launch, but WoW did. 0 FPS improvement which is just not possible. So I'm looking into drivers. I have a tactical nuke option: reinstall all packages. If that fails, fresh install nuke from orbit.

- working towards the "restore 30 Barn Finds" achieve, made an A Team van yesterday.
- attempting to be artistic and mostly failing but the game is nice about it lol
- Forgot I had started this just before my Xbone died, picked it back up this week
- because damn it, it's still the best skateboard game in the last 15 years, tho I am entirely rusty atm

Started playing Thirsty Suitors. It's way more inclusive than I thought it would be. Not that far in and already had some real meaningful moments. People really should check this game out. Extra Credits with an interesting take here. I personally don't "suffer" from being alone in gaming, as I'm antisocial enough I prefer to play MMOs alone. However, matchmaking based on play style instead of skill? That could be intriguing.

If you have PSN+ and haven't played these games already then you definitely should pick them up. Sable is great and Powerwash Sim is deeper than you'd think while also being a great game to listen to podcasts or audiobooks while playing. Haven't played Lego 2k, but I mean it's Lego, they rarely miss being better than decent.
