people claim that boeing has deteriorated in quality simply because the ceo is a "business person". what people forget is that the previous ceo (dennis muilenburg) was an engineer by trade. engineers can be greedy, soulless people too. even more so than most pampered business execs. we, as engineers, really don't want to admit this, but it's true. the ceo and management hold a lot of the blame, but the people working there are complicit too. if there's a few people who have been murdered over their conscience, there are a few thousand who took the money and shut up. because no one spoke up, the safety culture completely deteriorated. and now it's too late

@nosleep boeing deteriorated as a result of the merger with mcdonnell douglas and absorbing all of their managerial staff who installed a then-foreign business culture of profit at all costs, disrespect/distrust of employees, etc. nothing to do with business vs engineering. the culture changed because the people changed

@nosleep (my point which i don't think i laid out super clearly there is that engineers are sort of complicit in that they didn't speak up, but the cultural change had a lot more support in upper management so its possible they didn't have much of a choice and by the time all of this stuff came to pass everyone who was going to kick up a fuss was either numb or fired)
